*There's no optimal solution for the two value distillation exercise* . Choose what makes the sense to you and choose what makes the shapes clear. With two values you will have to compress the value range to lights (white) and darks (black). Midtones can be mapped to either lights or darks depending on their value. Furthermore, you may have to break the compression to make the silhouette or shape more comprehensible.

Thank you for the comment! You're right, I've definitely come to realise this since making this video. That I should be making decisions based on what provides the most clarity.

This is actually how I paint in acrylics. But like you mentioned at the end, I do 3 or 4 values rather than 2.

I'd like to try working with acrylics someday in the future. I've been doing some 3/4/5 value studies too, breaking paintings down into abstract shapes. I have lots to learn!

@@HadesPsd The more I learn every day, the more I notice mistakes and how much more there is to learn. You are doing great. I wish I could make videos of my art process but it turns into work when I do that. I'm already working so much. Thanks for the video. I enjoyed it 👍

I am a begginer painting and i feel as if i can never get the ''correct'' shapes. Any tips on how to sculpt shapes?

I've a learnt alot since making this video and I would really recommend getting a lasso fill tool to do these instead of a brush. If you want better shapes, look into shape design and apply those principles as best as you can. I covered these in my recent videos, kzbin.info/www/bejne/amKpmnSXeN2LiMk Its focused on characters but the principles apply everywhere
