Cherish every moment with your Dad, man. I lost my Dad last September at 58 years old, and he and I loved working on cars and racing together. I feel like a lost man now. 👍

Cool video. Good equipment, great choice of wheels, and your dad is a good father for helping you out on that job.

They look great. For better durability I’d recommend a baked on enamel or powder coat.

Thanks for the video. There’s videos on diy for of sorts for cars and they don’t do it correctly. This is what I need

At 3:54 you can really notice the cloud of epoxy primer overspray against the black background. The wheels turned out fantastic, I am getting ready to paint a set of wheels. I think I am going to make a spinning table out of a lazy Suzan so I can spin the wheels while spraying to keep me walking in circles. I have quite a few sets of wheels or paint

Are you going to use Ep primer or typical ?

Looks so good, almost thought they were powder coated
@benadams85254 жыл бұрын
That's because paint looks better than powder coat...it's just that powder coat is more durable. Wheels from factory and aftermarket are almost always painted for that reason.

Uhh wet paint has better looks than powdercoat. Your comment is reversed....

hey! they came out great, just wondering for clarification since i wasn’t suuper sure you used two coats of epoxy primer, then 2 coats of base coat, and how many coats of clear coat? planning on doing the same for my wheels and yours came out great, so i figured id ask :)
@donaldhollister8430 Жыл бұрын
It was 2 coats too we ended up mixing too much but one decent coat should be good. If you have the material it never hurts to do more

What grit sandpaper was used? What did you use to fill the chips if any?
@donaldhollister84304 жыл бұрын
Chips were smoothed out enough from prior sand blasting. 320 grit was used to get bigger blemishes out and slowly working up. Everywhere else was hit with a red scotch bright pad

@RobHTech4 жыл бұрын
Wait. So you guys sanded then used epoxy primer ? 1k or 2k? But, then you used urethane primer on top of the Epoxy? I'm not a paint guy. Some say use 2k epoxy primer, base coat, 2k clear. Others say just sand the painted wheels, 2k urethane primer, base coat, 2k clear. Any one have any thoughts?
@schafer2402 жыл бұрын
Your over thinking it. Epoxy primer is a primer/sealer. Not a good choice for alum wheels. Just spray hi build if needed, sealer might be a good idea depending if you didnt prime it all or the colour, base, clear. It's not hard, it's just paint.

No mask, of any type.
@donaldhollister84304 жыл бұрын
If you listen I recommend other to wear a mask. I also explained how this was in a well ventilated area. We are painting small wheels 1 minute per coat with proper breaks in between. And when painting clear a fresh air hood was used but you probably didn’t get that into the video before getting Butthurt and commenting...
@OCT5664 жыл бұрын
Any airborne synthetic crystalline compounds that enter the respiratory system are harmful that are present in sealer, bases, inner coats and clear. Not butt hurt as you described just a observation from a medical view point
