Alyson Earle, Certified Audiologist, explains how to pair Bluetooth compatible hearing aids to a smartphone for streaming. In the video, she pairs a set of Oticon OPN miniRITES to an iPhone XS.
Here are the steps for hearing aids that use disposable zinc-air batteries (as seen in the video):
Go to "Settings", "Accessibility", "Hearing devices", "MFi hearing devices"
Open and close battery doors to put the hearing aids in pairing mode
Place hearing aids either right next to or on top of the phone
Once the hearing aid is discovered under "MFi hearing devices," the name of the hearing aids(s) will appear; select the hearing aids
A "Bluetooth pairing request" will pop up. Select "Pair"
Here are the steps for rechargeable hearing aids
Go to "Settings", "Accessibility", "Hearing devices", "MFi hearing devices"
Turn the hearing aids OFF then back ON to put them in pairing mode by pressing the push button on the back of the hearing aids
Place hearing aids either right next to or on top of the phone
Once the hearing aid is discovered under "MFi hearing devices" the name of the hearing device(s) will appear; select the hearing aids
A "Bluetooth pairing request" will pop up. Select "Pair"
Some helpful tips!
Make sure you are connected to a secure Wifi network
Make sure your smartphone's software is up to date
Restart the phone and try again if you are having trouble pairing
