I recommend doing this in a larger area that has hard wood floor or a court lol and get a bit of a run start to give u speed and make u slide instead of just hitting the floor LOL, hope that maybe helped?

It’s easier with one of those knee protectors (idk what their called) so your knee doesn’t just stop all the momentum you saved up

Try not touch the floor if ur hands are sweaty it might injure u so just pancake mid air and after u touch the ball then protect ur body with ur hand and slide with ur clothes that's how I do it when I'm used to be a libero

Man, this is awesome. This is why technology is great. I only had Volleyball Magazine instructional sections back in the day. Some ideas/suggestions for you would be to do videos on: 1. "Attacking the block" (1, 2, 3 blockers, reading the block, picking apart the block where it forms) 2. Or maybe for D emergency moves like the chicken wing 3. Or something like reading an arm swing on D. There's a lot of potential with these things. Great stuff man. Info made available like this is gonna help a lot of players.

+Elevate Yourself Word! Disciplines like defensive coverage, digging a hard driven ball, etc didn't get trickled down all that fast back in the day... I remembered back in the day (before plyometrics was a thing) my coach used to say, "If you want to jump higher, jump more!" We had minimal instruction back in the day since we counted on vets to help.

Hello coach Donny! Thanks for the videos they've helped me quiet a bit. I have a request, can you do a tutorial on "dolphin dive" dig (like a legit dive in the air kinda thing)? I'm a libero and I have a pretty good reflex, but whenever I dive for a ball I'd always hurt myself landing. Thanks alot!!

I haven't been played for 2months because I have to move to another town for studying and I miss volleyball and my friends, the last time I played was when we had a liga in our province last December 2021. And damn, I forgot how to spike serve so I don't have a choice but to do underhand serve😭 I also forgot how to pancake, and dive and when I did I only got bruises, so I'm watching your videos a lot so that I can at least remember and learn it again. I MISS PLAYING VOLLEYBALL SO DAMN MUCH.

Hey Donny, could you make a guide on how to join your outside hitter for a block as a MB? I keep worrying about hurting my outside hitter or myself and end up having slower lateral movements approaching them and leaving a gap between us on the block. Thanks.

How can I do a pancake or a dive without hurting my hipbone? I keep hurting my hipbone whenever i try to dive for the ball. I followed all the steps. It’s either I’m doing it wrong or maybe I’m just too skinny?

Second I've an question: Does it work if I step with my left foot first and afer drop I play allready with my right hand (as a pankcake) or must I step with my right foot to pankcake with my right hand ?

Hello coach Donny, today I started practicing with my 14-16 coed volleyball team. In the past their have never been any boys in this league but this year there are three (myself included). The director was worried that the girls would be getting hit in the face of the boys were to hit too close. So he made a rule that all boys have to approach from behind the 10 foot line. I have never had to do this before and cannot seem to get the hang of it. I have a game in 2 weeks and feel that the drills they do their will not have me hitting by the first game. I was hoping you could make a video on how to successfully approach and hit from behind the line. I really enjoy your videos and keep up the good work!

Microsoft Anime Ninja You're gonna get used to that after a while. I play volleyball for 7 years now and I used to be scared of diving at first. After watching Haikyuu I give my all to jump after that ball no matter the cost :) so just do it and push yourself and you'll get over it

Do you have any advice for doing a pancake when you are wet from sweat? I constantly hurt myself because I abruptly stop on the floor and cannot slide. And I am a great sweater... 🙄

i know im a year late but keeping your dominant arm which ur reaching the ball with of the floor as much as possible would help, and also long sleeve arm warmers might help too if you dont like long sleeve uniforms

Me coming here after we did pancakes at practice and I couldn’t do it correctly so now I have two huge bruises that are almost black on my sides because I wouldn’t stop trying when I’m an outside/middle and almost never play back row but am still here because I want the satisfaction of know how to do it properly. Hey, I have a question if i’m doing the pancake I always hurt my elbow! I’ve tried it, but I can only dive with sleeves on! Do you know what the problem is?

your elbow shouldn’t touch unless your face and shoulders are close to or are touching the floor as well so keep your shoulders up and your arm straight and stiff.

I have a question: When I try to pancake with my right arm fully extended, I always hit the right part of my hips to the ground because the right arm isn’t there to support. I know I should land on my stomach and not on my hips, but when I’m doing it with both hands it’s much easier and I don’t hurt myself. What am I doing wrong? Thanks :)

Hey guys. I need help please ! When I make a pancake at volleyball, my hand is getting injured (like a burn) and I can't extend my arm because my hand does not slip on the floor but grip the floor. I don't understand why it makes that and how I can improve ! :(

Un hippocampe parmi tant d'autres you need to equalize the pressure youre putting everywhere on the floor and you mostly let you body slide while the pancake is lighter than the body
