Great video. This is what really happens at parkrun, no camels, silver suits or wings, just a simple 5km walk or run in the park with new friends. Thanks for reinforcing that walkers are always welcome at parkrun!

Thanks for the brilliant video Jamie...its my 2nd park run in an hours time..trying to beat 44.15!!! Dont laugh! Finished c25k a couple of weeks ago but very hard. Im 67 so I think I'm doing ok at the moment. Thanks again mate!
@alisonjones87794 жыл бұрын
You are doing brilliantly! Time doesn’t matter in my view. 5km is the same distance whether you run, run/walk or only walk. Being off the couch and part of a positive community is all that matters!

I'm 67 too and still working on c25K so not ready yet. I have my barcode and am ready to do a parkrun when I finish the program and feel i can make 5K.I will probably take an hour but will try!
@alisonjones87794 жыл бұрын
@@annierosha5946 if you are able to walk 5km, then you are welcome at parkrun. You don't need to be able to run any or all of it, and your time doesn't matter. parkrun really is just a walk in the park :)

Park runs are a great way to start running. I’d never done a park run until October 2021. Now about 7 months on I ran in an international event for my country.

I ran 3 parkruns back in 2014, then suffered problems with my hip, so I stopped, thinking ill give it a rest and go back, but never did, I'm 68yr old now, and I fully intend starting back at parkrun, my hip is worse now but I don't care, I'm going to give it a go, your video has made my mind up, thank you so much, and good luck .

In Australia (where I live) Parkrun starting times vary by state and also by either being in a metropolitan area or a rural area. I live in Goulburn in NSW where Parkrun starts at 8AM. In Tasmania where I often visit Parkrun starts at 9AM. It is best to be there 10 minutes before for the first timer's briefing and from then on 5 minutes before for the regular briefing (it's the same each week but it still a helpful reminder about the course and any possible hazards for example swooping magpies in nesting season). If you have a smart watch, you can download your bar code to it or to your phone and the scanner will detect and record your time. If you've never done Parkrun register then turn up and have a go. You will find a supportive community of others who want you to do well and will wish you well each week.

I've looked at lots of videos on the parkrun channel and couldn't find anything that explains things clearly like this! Thanks.

I would suggest you consider the tag size barcode, I keep mine in a small coin bag and have it in my back pocket of my leggings. The tags are not that big so you could maybe tie it to your laces or maybe keep it in your sock. The paper barcode is ok for a few visits but not very practical. I would suggest you maybe go to Parkrun by bike and use that as a warm up. I take a small bag with me and something to drink afterwards, there’s usually a groundsheet where you can leave your bag while you are running. If you have to do more than one loop then maybe try to have a landmark you have to pass and use that as a reminder. Maybe start at the rear and gradually work forward as opposed to being overtaken by everyone else. We are all different and the reason we attend varies from person, it’s meant to be fun and safe for all. Whatever your goal it’s achievable and you will find folk stop to talk to you over a while.

Pretty rude to comment on! People of all sizes and shapes attend parkrun to run, walk, jog or any combo. If you make comments like that I don't feel you'd be very welcome at a parkrun. It's all about being inclusive, friendly and giving it a go.
