For the CPE exam, whether it be for the speaking or the writing part, it is key to have an in-depth knowledge and command of : - tenses, aspects and modal auxiliaries, - verb patterns (bare infinitive, full infinitive or V-ing), - advanced set phrases and collocations, - compound adjectives and nouns, - idioms, especially the ones that can replace more basic linking words ("at one fell swoop", "in the twinkling of an eye", "back in the day", "day in, day out", "through and through", "by and large", "now and then", "on balance", "in the main", "on no account", "for the time being", "when all's said and done",...) - advanced phrasal verbs, - fixed phrases, - all types of clauses, - cleft-sentences and other subject-verb inversions, - linking words. - advanced adverbs - prepositional phrases. That's already a good start! :D

Thank you so much for the piece of advice. Tomorrow I'll be carrying out the Speaking task and I hope everything goes to plan, that is, reaching a high score. I'm quite nervous about it, mainly because I'm just 17, but confidence will probably take over once I start speaking. Thanks again and probably tomorrow I'll watch your other Proficiency videos. Have an awesome day!

@@tothepointenglishwithben. It went quite well, at least I hope, but I don't want to jinx it hahaha. But yeah, both spoken and written parts went as planned. I need to wait like a month before getting the results back, so for now waiting is all I can do. I even became friends with Candidate B, that is, my Speaking partner. Thanks again for the pieces of advice; 1000/10 teacher. Overall, Proficiency is an experience I'd recommend should you seek to become extraordinary in English. Moreover, this is an amazing channel I'll tell my friends about. Thank you, Ben. And all of you reading this, take care!

@@dariusalexandru7479 Yeah, thanks for asking. I passed with amazing marks! I felt skeptical and worried at first, but now I've proven myself wrong (in a good way, of course). I'm genuinely happy and glad I have the title, although my school will probably boast about it as if they did everything (they helped me, but weren't of the utmost importance regarding material support), but oh well. Afterall, I'm the first kid to achieve this at my school, dare I say, any school in my town. So, thanks again to everyone who were confident I'd do it and to those who read through this odyssey I've lived. I've really good memories from this experience! Hope that anyone who might do this at some point is able to meet success as well. Everyone will be here to support them, as you people did with me! Have an awesome day, y'all!

Hi Ben! Thanks for the video. I'm an English student. I'll go for the CPE in July, if I don't change my mind. I'm a person with a broad background being audio post production (sound design) one of my areas of expertise. I know you are doing very well (115K subscribers) so, most probably you'll pass, but I could help with your audio. The video part is great, the setup, camera, depth of field, lighting, etc., but the audio, which I bet comes from the camera mic, is far from the quality of everything else. Even the most experienced content creators advise, and quote "If you have to compromise on something that has to be the video quality, never the audio." That's all. If you decide to try how your content can level up, just respond to this message and we can talk about it. And now I'm going to carry on watching and hope that there's a way of overcoming the "looming CPE." Thanks for your help!

Thank you very much for the tips! That advice about the three bullet points is quite useful. I tend to think that when you are under pressure you probably won't have ideas so the card may help you, but what you said is also true! Do you think it is bad when you don't manage to finish your presentation within the 2 minutes, and b interrupted?
@tothepointenglishwithben.3 жыл бұрын
It's better to be interrupted than to finish too early and it's almost impossible to judge the time to perfection. So, as long as you have answered the question fully, it's really not a problem if the examiner interrupts you.

I took the C1 advanced exam and it turns out I am 1 point short of C2 (I got 199 points). I can't stop crying over it. I spent so much time studying and I am too scared to try again :'( The spoken test was the scariest thing I've ever gone through and I stuttered so much, this is probably where my missing points went. I will never get to be proud of myself.
@tothepointenglishwithben.2 жыл бұрын
You should be proud of yourself!! 199 is a good score... a frustrating score, of course, but it's an extremely tough exam and it's a great achievement. The best way to prepare for an exam is by taking the exam so I'm sure that if you decided to take it again, you would pass.

I loved your tips about ignoring the bullet points firstly! I tried practicing that exam question you put on the video and realized I've turned a conversation on public transport to political campaigns haha Do you think it's a bad thing to kind of change the topic in a organic matter? (i.e talk about lack of funds for public transit unless when its near reelection etc)
@tothepointenglishwithben.3 жыл бұрын
You need to stay on topic but you can give your own ideas. The most important thing is to give the examiners content to mark. So, keep talking the interlocutor interrupts you.
