Getting rid of credit card debt is more about changing your spending habits than just paying it off. This is because if suddenly you got a bunch of cash to pay it off, most will often just spend the same or even more since they are suddenly out of debt.

My main strategy is having a financial mentor, CC consolidation, cancelling or cutting up cards that charge annual fees AND most importantly 0% APR CCs for balance transfers. Everyone's situation is different which is why strategizing and mindset is key to effectively get out of huge debt.

Yeah i remember watching this when i had to move states. New job was very slow with income so i piled on loads of cc debt. thought id never get out. Started that steady job and making commission on top and plowing over $2k a month on my CC to pay them off. THank goodness for my CC company to be ontop and raise my limits, helped raise my credit score to get a personal loan for them with a lower APR. All in all just wanted to say thanks.

Raising limits from a CC could be a good and bad thing at the same time. Good if it allows you a bit more room to use temporarily but bad if you just dig yourself deeper with more debt. Just to tide you over for a few weeks then sure, it's good. You're welcome! =D

A couple things that are so basic you may take them for granted, but they should still be recognized: 1. You CAN pay off your debt. You must believe this or else you will fail. 2. Be honest with yourself. People will reject facts to maintain the status quo and ignore problems. Until you are honest with yourself, any plan of action you take will be potentially wander off course. 3. Have a plan. Write that plan down. Tell people about your plan. Make yourself accountable. When you share your goals with others, you are more likely to accomplish them. Use SMART objectives. Your goal should be: - Simple - Measurable - Accountable - Reasonable - Time-bound (Lots of people have different terms that fit the SMART acronym, e.g., "actionable" & "achievable." I like "accountable" because there need to be consequences for reaching or not reaching the goal. It provides motivation and keeps the big picture--why you have the goal--in view.) 4. Create a cycle of continual improvement. Evaluate your successes and failures. Find out why you succeeded or failed and use that knowledge to do even better next time. These are universal principles that will help you in anything you pursue. Paying off debt is not different than finishing a degree or completing a project. Becoming good with these principles will make you more successful in everything you do.

Thanks for watching! Well... . Financing = loose money! It's spending future money in which you have to pay interest. Even at 1%, I wouldn't do it. At 0% it's still risky because there are penalties if you do not pay fully at the end of the promo APR period. if you don't need to buy it right this minute, I would definitely just save up enough to buy one. Also, buy a used one. If you want a new one, still buy a used one 2-3 years old to save on depreciation.

You could negotiate to get it removed from your credit history as a condition of paying it off. To me, my view is to pay what you rightfully owe. Unless of course most the balance is due to high interest rates and not the true principal. Then there is some room to negotiate it down.

No pre-set spending limit topic is an interesting one, I actually never thought about making a video just on that before. I'll do one in the future. At least for now, it seems to me like some marketing trick so people can get this just to show off for people that cannot actually spend upwards of $10k/month. Kind of like a black card. Normal cards give you a limit of $20-50k on the top end so you have plenty of limit even for the type that will spend so much. Who spends that much every month? When your in too debt let the big ones charge off make settlements. Save the small little balance cards. Feel good. Credit scores go up and down over the years if they wanna charge 3% fees and redic April’s then let it go to collections. They serve you. You show up. Negotiate 30 Bal due down to 5 k horay make payments done in a year and a half. Although you may never get credit again from that bank you gave the banks game right back at them. Credit bounces back in 2-4 years. Only do this if you are financing a car and rent not if you own because then they could look to liquidate that. Trust me. Been there done that it works. But yea pay cash. Best way. Makes you more accountable but if your in too deep like 50-70 k on three cards. only pay 12-17 k after you settle, when you file the following year expect the settled part to count as income that uncle same will consider a percentage of income taxable against your refund expected it could eat it all up on you and owe you could owe if you didn’t have a refund coming to you. Been there done that. Just letting you know if your in too deep there is a way out. Don’t spend rest of your life paying redic interest to these billionaires

I have a dumb question. If you have a history of unpaid debt but eventually pay it off does that improve your credit score or will it be permanently tarnished from a history of unpaid credit card debt (even if you do pay off all of the debt)? I hope my question makes sense.

That is not a dumb question. If you have a history of unpaid debt but keep it all in good standing via minimum payments, then it does not affect your score at all if you suddenly pay it all off. However, if you continuously miss all the minimum payments, then that will stay on your record for 7 years and CONTINUOUSLY make your score lower until it that late payment falls off your record after 7 years.

viksra Omg, lol. It's gifted. But why pay it off the same day when there is a grace period and autopay that will do it automatically for you? To me, it's more work, too much clicking.

The problem I see with autopay is that it gives you a falsely inflated bank account balance for a period of time until the money is deducted from your account, which can lead to overdraft if you don't have it disabled + fees. I like my bank account to reflect what I truly have on a day-to-day basis, rather than waiting for the grace period to be over in order to get a true picture of my balance. In my opinion, floating money is actually more work because you have to remember how much is going to be deducted for new purchases and constantly calculate if you risk overspending and how much you have left over. By paying it off at the end of the day, I don't have to worry about how much I have or how much I can utilize, because it's always up to date. 3 or 4 clicks to pay the bill on a daily basis won't kill me lol

viksra Hmm! I see that working for one card. I constantly use 10 cards which would make that method prohibitive. I do not keep a tally of daily purchases as I also do not keep a balanced check book. I just keep a ball park figure enough to pay the bills in the bank. I also write down the auto payment amounts and the dates it is to be withdrawn to make sure I have enough. It's pretty hands off if I have regular spending but I need to keep a closer eye when there are spikes. Of course, this way requires you to not be bothered by an inflated bank account as the more I spend, the more inflated it appears. Not arguing for my method though as I think doing things the way you are comfortable with is best. I do enjoy hearing about your methods. =D

There are a few things that could negatively affect your score in that situation you mentioned. First is the application for a new card could reduce your score. Second, when you cancel, your total credit limit reduces which reduces your credit score. For a strong credit history, one application doesn't do much to your score and for a large total credit limit, cancelling one card doesn't negatively affect your score much either. So the degree to which it negatively affects your score depends on how strong your credit history is currently.

Pay off highest interest rate first for most. But if you need a psychological boost in knowing you are getting closer, then pay the smallest debt first. Don't discount psychological effects and it can be very powerful in encouraging you to pay things off.

You can and that will save you a bit on interest if you are not using the grace period. If you have a grace period because you end up paying it off every month in full then that's just too much work. You can just pay it all off right before the statement date for the same effect.

Not a good idea!!! I tried it hahaha. I decided to not follow through because once I get the loan for that, the bank wants their money now vs credit cards you can take a little more time.. My best thing to advice you to do is wait until taxes to hit and pay some of your loans with that. That way you have money on your credit card and you paid your credit card off... then reprogram how you handle your credit card. Only spend what you can pay back

75% Faster? I think this highly depends on your interest rate. On a 250k 4% 30 year loan, paying bi-monthly will reduce the term by 4 years roughly. This is 13% shorter.

I am not sure if you can offer any help. I am 34 years old, I started college late I will be done in about 2 years. I am estimating I will have 50k - 75k in student loans. I am getting my degree as a Software Engineer starting is around 85k a year. Can go up in 5 years to 120k or more. I currently don't have to pay rent and do not work I go to College full time. My goal is to buy a truck and a nice camper(it's like a mobile home) and live out of that so I don't pay mortgage or rent. I eventually want to buy some land and have tiny houses for rent on the land. Using solar panels, wells(for water) etc... pretty much self-sustaining with little cost. So I guess my dilemma is with my student loan, do I pay it off completely ASAP? Do I save some money for my goals? Do I pay the minimum of the loan and work on buying land and the houses or what? I guess I am asking what should my priorities be.

You priority is to use enough of your income to have a comfortable but minimal life. You may even want to save up some emergency funds before aggressively attacking the student loan. I haven't' done this camper thing but I feel like you greatly reduce your chances of finding a life partner by doing so. I think you might also have all sorts of trouble finding a place to park your camper over night but I'm sure it's still doable but with difficulties.

I would rent someone's parking spot or a piece of their yard to park my camper over night. Which would be a lot cheaper than paying rent or mortgage. I am only planning to do this for a few years so I can buy some property and settle down there. I did see your retirement video which didn't make much sense to me. In some examples yous said you could save 90% of your income. I know that would be extremely tough. But I see what you're saying now, just live a comfortable life without over spending. asmcriminaL Campers is what makes it into the news. Like the guy who lives in the parking lot of google and showers in their gym. I suppose if you think it's fine then to each his own. 90% of income is possible if you turn down your expenses while earning a lot. It's is tough to do but if you do it right, it's a matter of skill while still being comfortable. Greatly emphasize comfort here as anyone can save 90% by living on the streets.
