Thought I'd add to the thanking train. My Bluetooth was constantly disconnecting from my phone for no discernable reason. Jim: thanks for your help! I have a 2015 Taurus SEL AWD with the same radio system shown in this screen. All of a sudden I lost the Bluetooth symbol and phone sync. Did the reset on the radio (didn’t know about the Sync reset process) Was going to remove and replace fuse #9 for n the inside fuse box, however that is easier said than done since you can’t see fuse #9 The fix was simply to re-Sync my iPhone. Bluetooth symbol came back and all is well!! Thanks again from Connecticut. Mark G.

Lol Aside from some initial stress relief not recommended. Try manually resetting your system by taking out the fuse that runs sync and reinstall it. The other fix is to take off both battery cables and hold the ends together for minute, wait 5 minutes and reattach. If that doesn’t unfreeze it the module could be bad which means big buck repair.

Came here for this comment. Suddenly my media and phone buttons do not work! Grr I’ve done all the open/close door etc.. turn on/off Bluetooth on phone. My first thought after I couldn’t press the phone or media buttons when they mysteriously stopped working was fuses.. then I was thinking what if I disconnected the battery. Will take it up to my to BIL to take a looksee. You answered my questions and confirmed what I was thinking!

First make sure that your vehicle has Sync, it was an option on some models. There's some badging, usually by the gearshift, which will say Sync by Microsoft if you have it. If you do have it then you have several things to try. I'm going to post various fixes that have worked for people in the description above. Hope one works for you.

My daughter's car just recently stopped allowing her to access bluetooth. I tried to do the reset as you described, but when I hit the phone button, nothing happens. It stays on the radio and does not give me any options. Any idea what might be going on? Mary Critchlow The system failure diagnosis sounds correct if it doesn’t want to react to commands. You might want to try a software update at syncmyride.com Fairly simple to do. Register and submit your vin number and then go to software updates. Download to a thumb or flash drive and then insert that same drive to your vehicles USB port and in a perfect system will give you prompts to install the upgrade. Not sure if you system will allow it

Try taking off both battery cables off and touch the ends together for 15 seconds. This will sometimes cause the system to reset itself. Once it frees up register it at syncmyride.com and check for a software update. If one is available download it to a thumb or flash drive and then put that drive in your vehicles USB port to upload the software upgrade to the system

You probably don’t have sync and the phone button just mutes the radio so you can hear when taking a call. Definitely confusing for sure. If you have an emblem that says Sync by Microsoft your car is equipped with Sync but it wasn’t a standard feature on some models

Jim Parisi by the way, i have base trim so i have the 4” screen that doesn’t have sync or bluetooth or anything of that sort it’s so basic it plays music it plays the radio and it has EQ settings that’s about it. it’s been working well recently and the only times it shuts off is like after the cars been on already then turned off and no matter how soon or late you restart it the screen is off for awhile or till your next drive. you can’t start it then stop then repeat either it just takes it’s own time to turn on but like i said it’s been working better and it’s not a hassle anymore

You might need a new module which is quite expensive. Try to reset it manually using some of the hacks in the description or comments but it might be cheaper to just upgrade to an aftermarket stereo with Bluetooth capability

You do have sync right because it wasn’t always a standard feature but assuming you have it the system is most likely frozen up. You might be screwed and need a new module but try a couple of things first. Disconnect the red positive battery cable and wait a couple of minutes and reattach. You might try taking out the fuse that runs it as well. Hopefully it wii reboot the system for you. Not sure which fuse you pull but do a search and see if anyone has a video on it.

My system doesn't bring up any menu when I hit the phone button, and even when I hit the Aux button it wont even let me do line in or USB. Its like the whole Sync has crashed. I’m not aware of any other manual resets and sometimes it is the module that is bad and if that’s the case you are looking at a costly repair. Might make sense to price an aftermarket radio with sync capabilities versus price of new module.

@@ozzielara2337 I just had my APIM replaced at the dealer. In the expedition it's a major job to get to it and they're model specific, so you need to have the right one and program it correctly. So I'd recommend having the dealer do it, but it isn't cheap, after tax it was just shy of $1000. If you can do aftermarket I would recommend that. The expedition didn't have an aftermarket option, sad day.

Didn't work for me. Once I went through and reset, there was no option to reboot. I went through a few times to make sure I hadn't skipped anything.

@@cristalyepez4938 you can reset it by disconnecting the battery. Unfortuantely, mine is halfway under the front of the hood so that's not even as simple as it should be. A shame to have a problem like this but if you can't find another way, try disconnecting battery for 5-10 minutes.

My phone button won’t even register and when I hit sync it just goes right back to radio. Any idea how I can get that back? It just stopped registering a Bluetooth and the phone won’t even show up. I’ve unplugged the battery and fuses and got nothing.

So does the system respond to any voice commands like changing radio stations etc? If it doesn’t do anything it might be fried but I would see if you can still utilize the USB port to upload a software update for Sync. It’s free once you register your VIN at syncmyride.com Hope you can get it going.

@@MrMonk330 It’s been several years but I had a fusion and it allowed me to download a software update to a thumb drive and then I used the vehicle’s USB port to upload it to the system. I did have to register at synyride to get it

I have a small battery that appears when i press media and once i press media it goes right to the radio and when i press ok for sync phone im still pressing ok and nothing happens. How can you help

I am retired from the business but never heard of a battery appearing when you press media. I would advise checking out some of the hacks I listed to manually unfreeze the system or just save a lot of time and buy an aftermarket audio system that has Bluetooth connectivity.

I’ve followed your steps but my 2015 Ford Fusion doesn’t have sync reboot… anyway I can get it on my car or any other solutions? It’s not letting me connect to bluetoorh

The master reset should fix most issues and not sure why but on some sync systems the reboot is called something like system default. Check for it in the submenu

Some models don’t have sync as a standard feature and all the phone button does is mute the stereo. Do you have a little badge that says Sync by Microsoft near the gear shifter? If so you have it and you most likely have a system that is frozen up. Read some of the hacks listed in the description and see if you can manually unfreeze it.

Sounds like your system froze up on you. I retired years ago and have no idea why or how you lost everything but you might try using some of the hacks listed in the description and comments to manually unfreeze it.

You might be screwed and the module that runs it died or it is frozen up. There are some hacks you can try to manually reset it. I listed them above.

I retired a couple of years ago so a lot has changed since. Ford no longer gives free software updates on the original Sync systems, you have to get it at dealers. You can try some of the hacks listed in the description or comments but even if you get it unfrozen you’ll still need to pay to upgrade the software.

I need your help! I have the exact setup from the video but I can’t access the phone menu at all. I press the button and nothing happens. If I press media the screen acts like it’s trying to do something but just goes back to playing the radio. Please help internet genius🙏

Thanks but Ford has decided to charge for software updates on the Sync system. When I shot this video you could go to sync my ride.com and register your vehicle and get a free software update. A commenter told me they no longer offer it and you have to go to the dealership to upgrade it. So if you want you can read through the comments for manually unfreezes hacks that work but you won’t be able to upgrade it.

It is pretty expensive to replace it so try a couple of things first. Go to syncmyride.com which is Fords site dedicated to Sync. It will give you a free software update if one is available and you can download the update to a thumb drive and upload to your vehicle through the USB port. If the update doesn’t want to take then you have to try to manually unfreeze your Sync system. A couple of hacks seem to work. Take both battery cables off and hold the battery cable ends together for a minute and reinstall after 5 minutes. Another one is to take the fuse out that runs Sync, wait around 5 minutes and reinstall. Hope you get it going!

I don’t have the option for sync reboot. When I reset, it says sync line in. And when I go back to the menu, it says “install application” after master reset.

Not sure if a software update deleted the reboot option but for whatever reason sync doesn’t offer a reboot option anymore or they use a different term. Sorry I can’t be more specific but retired a while back.

First make sure you have Sync on your vehicle. On some of the early models it was an option and all the phone button did was mute the stereo. If you have it there should be a Sync by Microsoft badging by the gearshift. So if you have it then you need to manually reset it by removing the battery cables and then hold the ends of the battery cables together for a minute, wait 5 minutes and reattach. Some folks take out the fuse that runs sync and reinstall after 5 minutes.

Assuming you did the reset you might need an upgrade to the software that runs Sync. You can get it for free at syncmyride.com but you will need to upload it from a flash drive to the USB port
