Thank you so much , it was my first time to assist when this procedure was done in theatre and I hadnot understood the purse-string. Now I understand it better.

We used this procedure on a 400lb steer who had a prolapsed rectum!! Worked wonderfully. Thanksi

I wouldn't see how this type of suture would be particularly useful for a prolapse given that it would seem that it would negatively affect hemoperfusion of the tissue. Rather, in the scenario of a prolapse, I would think that one would either use a mesh sling implant or more preferably a few simple bytes to hold the prolapse in the correct anatomical position as to avoid minimal obstruction of hemoperfusion to the tissue.

The vet told me they were doing purse string stitching to my Manx kitten's rectal prolapse. I didn't know exactly what that meant. Thank you. My poor baby!! :'(

The pursestring suture is used to temporarily secure catheters into vessels or hollow organs, it is sometimes used to secure Penrose drains or other large drains (such as a chest tube or a negative pressure drain) which are partially external to the patient. it is also sometimes used to repair major vessels secondary to trauma and can be useful to repair vascular aneurysms, etc. Another place it is used is during procedures that inherently leave an internal stump, such as hysterectomy to close the end of the stump that is left internally after the removal of the uterus.

McDonald suture for reinforcing the week cervix ...We do this purse string suture .
@Harlem552 жыл бұрын
McDonald's suture has the disadvantage of possibly promoting septicemia, given that the uterus is not a sterile environment. The better technique, though a bit more difficult to perform, is a Shirodkar suture, which has the same effect, the primary difference is that the suture is buried inside the wall of the uterus as opposed to throwing full bytes as with McDonald's which pass through the uterine wall.
