@saraondrako I would like to thank you for your video. On Monday June 7 my beautiful doberman Daphne had her 9th birthday; on Wednesday June 9 I had to perform CPR to bring her back to life. During the whole process I kept replaying everything from your video in my head. Thank you so much for helping me save my dog's life.

Thank you so much for this great video. I just stumbled upon it and I'm glad I did. Like you said, hopefully I'll never have to use it but it's necessary to be prepared. I love my dog very much and I really appreciate the time you took to make this video. My dog is a Male pit named Tyson who has cancer and has undergone 3 surgeries to remove some of it. All 3 surgeries were done by the same vet. I'm happy to say he has been a real trooper and a very good boy through all of this. Most important is that he still enjoys a very good quality of life which is the only way that I will have it. He's a happy go lucky dog and is pushing around 10 1/2 to 11 yrs so he's getting up there. Anyway, I'm going to go buy a couple of plush dogs and get to practicing. I look forward to watching more of your videos. Thank you again for this wonderful content. It's better than gold. God bless you for what you do.

Thank you so much - I'm glad you found value in this video and I also hope you never need it but if you do - you'll be armed and ready to make a difference! Thank you also for rescuing! There are so many wonderful loving dogs in need of homes out there, especially pit bull type dogs, who need people like you willing to give them a chance. All the best to you and Tyson! :)

Thanks so much! Glad you found it helpful! I don't have a video on that but I might have to add that to the video list since it's a fun one! I taught her "down" first, then using a lure, got her to practice the motion with me of rolling to one side, then phased out the lure and just used a hand gesture to get her to move into that position, then layered in the cue word.

Hi Gary! Excellent question. Some other examples of when CPR would be appropriate at home would be a sudden collapse from a cardiac event, electrocution, finding your dog having suffocated from a bag or other item, or unconscious after choking. The key being that their heart is no longer being, whatever the event may be. The closer you are to veterinary care, the more I would encourage you to go directly to the hospital. If you are further away, I would encourage starting CPR and getting there as quickly as you can. Hope that helps! Thanks so much for watching.

On Monday 17th Jan 2022 my dog choked on a biscuit while out on a local field, I couldn't get it out my husband was with me we tried without success, his tongue turned blue he collaspsed he stopped breathing and his heart stopped it was then we got it out, years ago I watched dog cpr and remembered what to do I got him back and we rushed to the vet who gave him some meds and we went home that Saturday was my dobermanns 3rd birthday he lived to see it and he's fine

Ok correct me if I'm wrong... but you're doing CPR on the right side of your dog in the video? I'm just basing that on your anatomical position in the video... so should they be with the right side up or left side up? Because at one point you flip the dog and pat on her left side and say it's the closest part to the heart but then you flip her back to right side up for your actual demonstration... (not the chest straight up portion) so can you clarify?
@SaraOndrako
@SaraOndrako 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Emily! Great question! Yes - I can clarify. So traditionally, we used to place dogs on their right side down because the school of thought was that gave you closer positioning to the heart with compressions. Quite a bit of research has been done over the years that now tells us there is actually no significant difference in outcome at all based on the side that you lay your dog on to perform chest compressions. In the video, I do left side down and right side up and simply pick this position to tell people so that it will stick given that in the moment of an emergency, you don't want to be thinking about - wait - does the side matter? This is just a tactic to help automate that step if you ever have to perform CPR so that you have a side stuck in your head and you simply begin rather than getting caught up in thought. Hope that helps!

Lovely video! Can we do hands-only CPR when 2 rescuers are present if neither of us are not comfortable doing the rescue breaths, like in human adult by-stander CPR? We could still switch every two minutes to avoid fatigue.

I had a yorkie who had an enlarged heart. He suddenly collapsed. How long can survive without doing cpr (if I have a hospital about 5 min (without traffic). If I do cpr and I "bring him back," how many minutes would he survive before I get to the hospital and vets could help him? So, for yourkie 6 times to "press heart" and then "air"?

So who do I call? In human cpr you call 911. But do you call the vet? Or who?
@SaraOndrako
@SaraOndrako 4 жыл бұрын
Great question! Yes - call your veterinarian to let them know that you are coming and tell them what happened. This is the best way for them to be ready for your animal with a team of people assembled, life saving drugs, and supplies needed based on what happened, (if you know). If your vet sees emergencies and is open, that's the best place to go since they know your animal's history. If they are not and you are going to Urgent Care or an Emergency Room, still call ahead so that they are ready when you get there. It helps to have these numbers pre-programmed in your phone. Every second counts. Hope that helps and thanks for the question!

Our 8 month boxer collapsed, was playing one minute the next he let out a cry/howl nnjust layer on his side. I gave him week compressions n breaths. B4 I started he gave out one big breath which seemed his body collapsed, his tongue was out n eyes seemed to roll up to his head. 3 of my teenage kids were all there.

A dog is supposed to be on its right side not its left.
@SaraOndrako
@SaraOndrako 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Lawrence, traditionally there has been training on having the animal on the right side, however, there is no evidence to support that either side is actually more effective. I went ahead and updated the description of the video to reflect that either side is appropriate with one of the sources (Today's Veterinary Nurse) that briefly addresses this. Thanks so much!
