How to Perform Trailing Technique Outdoors With a White Cane

In this video, I demonstrate how and when to perform trailing techniques outdoors (also known as shore lining) with a white cane for people who are blind and visually impaired. This video covers some of the basics of trailing and gives some examples of the benefits of trailing outdoors. If you have further questions or need help with this skill please reach out to an Orientation and Mobility Specialist for further training.
This video is meant to be a review of the technique and not a replacement for meeting with an O&M Specialist.

This is great but what do you do when there are no shorelines? How can you travel straight without bouncing from left to right? Any Tips or Tricks out there?

Mike your videos are very helpful but due to the cataracts in my eyes that are interfering with my very low vision loss I only practice your cane techniques at home and at the mall when my mom drops me off at the mall with my niece.I haven't been outside by myself for quite a while because it is really hard for me to see the traffic lights,vehicles etc which is due to the cataracts hazy fog and severe blurriness and I wear my wrap around sunglasses when I am in the backyard with my cat
