In this video I bring on one of my good friends, Jackson Hayes, Former walk on linebacker at Ohio State. He is one of 2 total other people who lasted the entire walk on journey with me from start to finish. He tells the story about his process trying to get on the team and drops some good wisdom on perseverance throughout the process.
Feel free to reach out if you are seeking some advice or have any questions. Both of us are happy to help assist on the journey!

Keep Grinding on YT my man! Love the channel. I’m from Youngstown huge fan, I’m concidering walking on to a MAC school either Akron or Bowling Green. However I played D-Line in HS and would have to switch to LB in college, I’m about 5’10 205. I have a few buddies that are playing D3 and D2 and I’ve been working w them everyday. Thoughts about the position change? I love how every story they all end up at Ohio State, in the end. Looks like I got to start working 2x harder. But thoughts on the position change?

Appreciate it my man! And yeah size wise you may need to do some position changes, but if you're going to walk on somewhere they will put you wherever they need people at that you fit the role for. So focus as much as you can on becoming a better overall athlete and more on your drills for that specific tryout. The position and skill work at that position will come once it's time, but it's hard to do work on those without actually playing games or practicing as a team.

Okay question, I’m a senior in high school and have a school I’m tryna play at as a scholarship or walk on athlete. Do you recommend sending film and emails and whatever to the teams coaches? I’m wondering if you think it’s better to reach out to them on a weekly basis. If not what works better monthly?daily?

If you are in high school and trying to get recruited I would send out your film as many places as you can. Once you get to college unrecruited and are trying to be a walkon they usually won't care to watch it from my experience and likely you will just need to find the tryout date and go make a team that way.

I’m currently in the military and wanted to try walking on to a D1 college (preferably OSU). In high school i was a star player but didn’t have the grades to continue playing so that’s why i chose the military. I just turned 23 and my enlistment is up in less than a year from now but even though i feel like i’ve been working hard to keep my body in shape i feel as if i’m not going to be able to keep up with people fresh out of high school. do you have any tips or guidance?

Just get into the college, have good grades, and prepare for the tryout, all the other stuff comes way later on. You gotta focus on MAKING a team first and if it works out then worry about keeping up etc.....DM me on instagram I'll send you my tips for the tryout.

How different is this process for quarterbacks?
@clayraterman
@clayraterman 4 жыл бұрын
Differs from school to school, but generally after the basic tryout with all the drills, they have you do a few position specific drill. As a QB they would usually watch you throw and see how you do on some routes I would imagine. I believe that's what they did at our tryout as well.

clay raterman how much are your chances hurt if your not a “scheme fit”? For example their a spread team that moves their qb and your more of a passing guy.
@clayraterman
@clayraterman 4 жыл бұрын
@@haseebahmad5361 Scheme's change quite a bit and they tend to base their scheme's off the players. As a back up or a walk on generally they are looking for someone who can fit in either if needed, but there's plenty of back ups out there who don't necessarily fit the scheme!
