I'm planning on traveling from Kentucky USA all the way to cape Horn South America. the entire journey will be a few months and I will be going to Africa afterwards. I'm virtually homeless and broke as it is, so I plan on selling everything, buying a passport, and working odd jobs along the way. I'm also a musician, photographer, artist, 3d animator, writer, and many other things, so I can probably work online too. thanks for the tips!

I just decided to take the dive and go to South East Asia for my first solo trip. my budget and planning should keep me there for 4 months, fingers crossed, but I feel most fortunate that I have videos like this one and so many more that will help me from committing rookie mistakes! I already know to pack light and to try packing even lighter, leave all my most important valuables at home, and to get travel insurance, visas, not to overbook my trip, not to plan hardly anything except the flight, make copies of my passport, bring extra debit cards, bring antibiotics, have a padlock, have a sleeping mask and ear plugs, and to have the time of my life. psycho traveller you have been most helpful as were other bloggers but I keep coming back to yours cause of your personality. I almost feel like if I ran into you at a hostel somewhere it would be so easy to make friends! I am so inspired and excited ! I leave in less than 2 months after exams this may 1st. so cheers psycho traveller and thank you for the advice

glad you say about not planning it too much, I have my first few days in Christchurch booked, I want to travel down to Stewart Island after that but everyone was shocked that I hadn't booked my coach or hostel for it. Great video as always! So agree with you about slow travel. I don't understand how travellers can jump from one European city to another like every 2 days, which many of them did when I was in a Paris hostel. Some of these travellers were surprised that I chose to stay in Paris for a week! I'm so glad I stayed comparatively longer, as I got to know Paris better. Of course I still scratched the surface there but it was great for me! These videos inspire me to travel more!

Aside from Snapchat, you're getting better at your videos. I like it more. Great job. I'll do my first solo backpacking trip. I have a 2 weeks trip to Bangkok Vientiane siem reap (Phnom Penh) and Ho Chi Minh. I really want follow your advise to not plan everything. Explore. But I plan to take cooking class in all these cities (and I really have a very limited budget and leave). Next time I'll go back to these countries again and just explore. :)

So agree with taking your time! Saw an article about some guy who has visited every country in the world and he's only 29 or 39 something. He said he would spend a day in each country in Europe, and I just thought 'have you seen anything in those countries though?' because I'm pretty sure he must have spent the majority of his time just driving to get to each place. Makes you wonder whether he did the trip for the experience or just to be able to tell people that he has been to every single country...

So I just established that I want to travel solo this summer for a month around central Europe and the tip of the Balkans and I did start with a itinerary with an itinerary and then I watched your video and I'm so glad I did! I was planning to visit 9 countries in 30ish days and too many cities and I just asked myself.. What will my achievement be if I do that? Yes a whole long list of visited countries and cities but that's something only to boast about on social media! I tried last fall visiting Vienna/Budapest/Krakow all in 12 days and as much as I enjoyed the whole thing I still feel I missed so much there that I didn't see! I didn't get a local vibe I barely made friends! I decided I will narrow down my list to a small number of countries/cities and invest more in details and go with the flow, maybe join people I meet there in hostels or in meetups on their crazy hobo budget trips (That's all I can afford). Thank you (I don't know your name :o) for slapping me in the face with that piece of wisdom! I love your crazy character :D Now let me go watch more videos of yours!

Sooo excited to be in the early stages of planning my central America trip.. The only thing is I'm planning to go to Italy for a few months before so I don't want to book the flight yet in case I want to stay. Do you think I should still book it? Maybe it'd be a good idea because if I'm not careful I'll spend all my money and that would suuuuck, and at least if I had the flight booked I'd be excited that it was definite.
@LieseLotte123129 жыл бұрын
***** I waited too long to book my flight to CA and ended up spending 200€ more just because I was stupid :D So maybe already booking it would be a good idea.. And plan plenty of time for Nicaragua and ridiculous much money for Costa Rica ;)

Thanks for the advice!! I take it you did CA? Yeah I'm planning on spending most of my time in Guatemala and Nicaragua, but I'm just gonna wait and see when I get there. Yeah, I heard Belize and Costa Rica are ridiculously expensive, I was considering missing one to save money.. Which would you recommend I go to out of them both, or should I just try and save more hahah?*****
@LieseLotte123129 жыл бұрын
The actual plan was going from Panama to guatemala in five month.. yeahhhh turned out that I am a slowtraveler and "only" did panama, costa rica and nicaragua. Costa rica is beautiful, but they charge you for EVERYTHING so research what really worth the money. I heard from a lot people that they skipped Costa Rica. Nicaragua is freaking cheap! Local buses throug the entire country will only coast 10 bucks, great rum and a great deversity of landscapes. Even though it was my first backpacking and solotrip I highly recommend CA :)*****

Love your videos and great advice. Although I agree on not planning everything, it's quite different and a bit more difficult to avoid the pre-planning when you have a passport that requires visas for most countries, even SE Asia. I'd love to plan less for a trip to Asia, but I am from Mexico and require visas (to be issued at the embassies in MX City before the trip) and for some of them they ask you about reservations and plane tickets out of the country. I figure out the way to go around this is to plan for the countries where I need to get the visas and book accommodation and transport, and leave it more open for countries where I don't need visas. Any advice on better ways to do this are much appreciated. Greetings from México!

I HATE those whistle stop tours, I've been in Poland for the last month and a half and will be here for another month doing research, and I still haven't seen everything. Granted I need to spend a good chunk of each time writing my thesis, but still! My friend did the 14 days of Eastern Europe and only spent 3 days in Poland! 3 DAYS!!!! Plus I like to wander away from groups, they went to super chain stereotypical places. I mean its fun to check that out, but to get to know the country and the people! I wanted to hit my head on the wall when I heard about her trip! Plus Eastern Europe is cheap enough that you can spend that same amount of money and still get better food and more experiences!

Thailand thing is confusing me though, the flexi flight do you have a clip on that or a little explanation? Do we book an exit route then just keep putting it back and renewing the visa? How longs the flight? Plus it will have to be booked home won’t it because without a plan i won’t know where i want to go after Thailand. Also can you link the how long should i book accommodation vlog in the description please? thanks.

I'm a big fan of your blog and just love your communication skills....but in this one I disagree.. if you travel for 2 weeks and you don’t have a plan then you'll miss out. if you travel alone, then its sort of fine coz you'll let yourself loose and whatnot. But if you go with your boy/girl friend than having a daily plan will make it easy to get your things straight...you'll save time and money if you tour the same part of the city in the same day so you don’t go back and forth to the same place. if you go 2 months on a solo trip, then I'll be the first to say "book the first few days and go with the flow"...

Why did you put China in with the more expensive countries?? It's just as cheap as the rest of Asia. the cheapest hostel i had there was £3 per night. The only thing that is slightly more expensive is travel between cities but thats because most people fly between them because the size of the country, but if you do it like the locals and take the sleeper trains it's a lot cheaper and gives you a better experience of the country.
