Pepe, I have learned that if you put holes all around the container, your plant wont get root bound. I also do not put holes in the bottom of my pots, which holds water for a longer time especially during the hot months.
@Pepesplants6 жыл бұрын
Yes, that will air root prune your plants. They actually sell special containers for that. Most people don't know that. You can still end up root bound but it depends on the number of holes or slits.

Hi Pepe, thank you for the video, I have a plant that atemoya tree that I got for xmas I pretty much replanted from the pot that it came in into a bigger one almost as big as this one in the video, the place where I got it from told me not to re-pot it for at least 2 years. However, I did not know about spreading the root, should I take out of the pot and do it? Btw your links to amazon and etsy.com are not working.
@Pepesplants4 жыл бұрын
Lucas, not sure why they said to wait two years. If the tree was as big as the one in this video it must have been root bound (circling roots). I cant give you advice without having seen the root system of your tree. Give the tree another 4-5 months and then check the root system. You can then re pot the tree. Don't be as aggressive as I was with he Soursop. Gently tease the Atemoya roots when you repot. All the best and happy growing.
@lofenoialof53202 жыл бұрын
@@Pepesplants what if we nestle the potted atemoya (which is in a small container ; 2-7 gallon pot) into the soil and the roots go beyond the container? Would we still need to re pot? Thank you!

Most Soursops I have seen are within six feet and some even closer. They have a fairly shallow root system. Always a risk to plant trees close to foundations so keep that in mind.

No, I planted the tree in the ground six months later. I could have gotten a 25 gal pot and continued to grow it that way also. Once a year a good root pruning and adding new soil would keep the tree happy. Think about how people grow Bonsai trees. It can be done. Happy growing.
