Is it possible to use azalea fertilizer as a general fertilizer? I have 2 boxes and will never use it all, so want to use one of them for general use on plants.

Hello thank you so much for the information. I live in zone 8 in upstate South Carolina. Was just wondering when is a good time of year to plant my Rhododendrons? Thank you!

Just remember both heavy clay and peat moss hold a lot of water so easy to drown your plants

Ii, I live in zone 3 and recently I bought rhododendrone Rosy LIghts and White Lights. The Northern LIghts series varieties are the most cold hardy and grow max 4 f. I would like to plant them as close as possible so that whit and pinky blooms would blend, intermix, to give an impression of one big bush with white and rosy flowers. Have you seen something similar in your practice? Do you thnk it is a good idea? Thank you.

Hello, thanks for sharing your thoughts. I wanted to ask, can we grow azalea (mandarin lights) in pots? Or It has to go in soil.? Location : Toronto, Canada zone 3

Thank you. Great video. Do the plants need any protection for the winter?

i wish i had seen this video 2 months ago when i planted my rhododendron. I did not make the hole 3 times as big only 2 times and i only left it one forth above soil line. should i dig it up and redo it? i also did not use holly tone- i used biotone starter

Holly-tone and bio-tone are virtually the same thing!

Perfect video.What kind of azaleas can live in zone 3
@DaytonNursery3 жыл бұрын
I think it would be best to stick with the deciduous types of azaleas such as the Northern Lights series.

What's the best mulch available for the acid lovers in this area on Ohio?
@DaytonNursery4 жыл бұрын
Definitely pine bark mulch!

Would this be the same for zone 9? Mine is already loosing its flowers after 3 weeks. I don’t think I’m over watering as I’ve been using a moisture meter. The leaves are still green but the flowers are brown.
@DaytonNursery3 жыл бұрын
No, I would suggest to follow the recommendations from your nearest garden center.

@@DaytonNursery they don’t seem to know a whole lot. I was trying to ask about the ph levels and they seemed very confused. But I’ll reach out to another location and hope to have better luck.

I thought they prefer acid soil? I've seen many recommendations to amend soil with pine needles to help make it more acidic. So much differing information
@DaytonNursery3 жыл бұрын
Yes, they do require acidic soil. We recommend adding peat moss to acidify the soil here in NE Ohio to also help break up the clay in our native soil.
@Stilgar74 Жыл бұрын
oof... pine needles making a soil more acidic is unfortunately an unfounded myth. Please also be careful when adding peat moss to heavy clay soils both mediums retain mosture extremely well which can be problematic for roots and overall health. top soil, compost, planting elevation would be a safe bet

Nice video. I have a question though. Would you suggest and compost? Or any other soil ammendment. I see alot of people using soil acidifers to help lower the ph.
@DaytonNursery4 жыл бұрын
We suggest pre-moistened peat along with the use of Holly-tone. You can also add in about 10% compost or Sweet Peet to add organic matter.
@PiecesOfNature4 жыл бұрын
@@DaytonNursery do you ad sand to the soil for drainage?
@DaytonNursery4 жыл бұрын
@@PiecesOfNature You sure could, if needed!
@PiecesOfNature4 жыл бұрын
@@DaytonNursery i mean just peat with compost would get very soggy when it rains. Few plants like soggy feet or to dry, most prefer moist soil that drains exess water effectively. Rhododendrons too.
@DaytonNursery4 жыл бұрын
@@PiecesOfNature I apologize. I thought the sand comment was on the bulb planting video. Here in Ohio, the peat moss is necessary to break up the heavy clay soil and to add much needed acid to the soil. We only suggest adding 50% peat moss to the native soil. The area will need to be well-drained, yes. www.daytonnursery.com/knowledge-base/garden-tips/rhodo-azalea/
