We love cooking with this expensive garlic, so we grow a lot of this at home.
This is a complete guide to growing elephant garlic at home.
This variety of garlic is TWICE as large as regular garlic. It is actually a leek,
but it grows and tastes much like traditional hardneck and softneck garlic varieties.

Thank you Melanie for your kind words of encouragement. We get very discouraged with our KZbin channel. Low views, subscribers leaving, nasty, mean comments, etc. At times we feel like giving up. I found four clumps of what is supposed to be elephant garlic. Abandoned 5 to 10 years ago. Around 30 or 40 bulbs in a clump, very few bigger than a golf ball. I'm trying to get a raised bed finished to bust up the clumps and plant them out more like they should be. Kinda late and they're already starting to grow. Will have to do. They were still full of seed heads from all the blossoms. Youtubing for the best way(s) to do it. Lots of tips here.

Thank you for the effort on this video. I'm up in the thumb of Michigan and hardnecks thrive here. I planted 160. I have been wanting to grow Elephants for some time and I have some coming up and I am hopeful. I really want to try making a middle eastern spread called Toom with them as the hardnecks have too sharp of flavor and get too spicy for it. God Bless you both!

We live in Maine, Zone 5Bish. We all develop our own perceptions growing up. Had never seen Garlic grown in the Northern climates, so assumed it was a Southern crop. We don't get frost here, we get FREEZE here, feet deep. Watched how Hollis did it. Ordered some German Extra Hardy from Filigree Farms, and got some store bought and was off and running. The Xtra Hardy, 100% germination, 56 bulbs, store bought 3. The 2nd year planted our own Xtra Hardy and bought some Music variety. Also a couple Elephant. (Just to try) This time 100% germination and harvest! Last fall we planted our own grown Xtra Hardy and Music. Following Hollis's lead, we are now self-sufficient growing Garlic. 3 years from Nay Sayer, to believer! 150-160 cloves planted with plenty bulbs left over to share with friends, family, and our own use. Thank you for the inspiration my friend. I didn't see you soak your cloves. 1qt water, 1tbls baking soda, 1tbls fish emulsion. Is it because of the climate you now are in? Mark n Rosa

You are doing awesome on your garlic👍👍. I don’t bother soaking my elephant garlic bulbs. Never had any problem with it. Saves me a step. I only do it with soft and hard necks. Still trying to become successful with soft and hard necks down here in these hot/humid conditions not to mention Sandy soil. Working with Keene Garlic on an experiment right now. Hopefully the results will be good this summer. Once I find the right varieties I will commit to growing some on a larger scale. It’s a struggle.

Man, I grew elephant garlic for the first time last fall/winter. Had big beautiful green growth, but come harvest time all that was produced underground were singular bulbs “ rounds “. I was pretty disappointed about it because that was a long time to take up the garden space for only producing a little round. I’m going to give it one more go this season here in 9b Central FL.

I love your video's. I learn so much from you. I must add that I am somewhat skeptical when a company sends products for you to use. I say this because I have seen other folks get and use products that companies send them knowing the folks are "influencers". They ship them really good stuff but when regular folks order products they aren't as good as what they sent to the influencers. I would like to know other folks experiences with ordering this same product from the same company. I don't live there any more but I'm from the "SHOW ME STATE" (if you know you know). Hoss is a great company! I didn't see you fertilize the elephant garlic. Did you do that or was the initial Black Kow and bone meal the only feeding? Thanks.
