Hi, I am English and took early retirement to the south of France and I have recently planted the herbs in the video, so I found the video very helpful. I shall be carrying out my own experiments with curry, vietnam coriander, lavender and sage herbs. Thank you for the great videos.

Thanks for taking the time to do the experiment.....I'm on a mission to populate my property with rosemary, because its aroma seems to thwart mosquitos in the deep south......this is the first year I've grown it, and now, propagated it. My mother-in-law who lives on our property, has several large plants only for the purpose of reducing mosquito activity. It seems to work. I happen to like its flavor, even though she does not. So, I took very woody rosemary cuttings, shaved the bottom stem with a blade, and placed them in organic soil inside a DYI greenhouse, AKA discardable plastic bottles. The top is open for airflow, and the plastic bottle is cut to allow it to open and close. The cuttings were placed in partial sunlight, and spritzed through the open hole to keep the environment moist. After 4 weeks, the roots are healthy and gigantic, and ready to pot. I believe different growing zones produce different results. Just my 2 cents. However, your video provided great information.

I just started propagating herbs for my indoor herb garden. This was very helpful! Thank you!

Changing out the water every 48 hours is key. Softer stems (newer top growth) root better.

Loved this. Great job, man! Even your "fails" were a success, in my opinion. It shows me what CAN happen. Thank you for the time lapse showing us the different stages. Job well done sir.

Thank you for this video. I’m new to propagating herbs, which I’ve successfully done with store-bought ones! Mint is crazy easy. I’m totally indoors because I’m in Sacramento, where it’s hot as $&@% most of spring, all of summer, and a lot of fall. I’m going to try some experiments like you have, and I’ll let you know how mine go! Great channel 😀

Good videos on cuttings, thanks. Also in regards to adding water to the jars: oxygen/gases in the water is important for rooting, thus the use of aeroponics for rooting cuttings fast. When you transplant into pots, water them right away since those delicate roots and root hairs need TLC - I use Vitamin B1 to reduce transplant shock. Cheers.

Another BRILLIANT VIDEO! I too enjoy creating plants from plants all for free! My propergation skills arn't this good yet but I constantly have diff species on trial. I watch alot of gardening videos but must say that yours are really outstanding. Your delivery is clear and concise. Timing is spot on. You included the follow up in the same video which is awesome. Wondering if you also study the science of plant reproduction? I have found this helpful.

That’s awesome! I am surprised your tea didn’t work better! The experimenting was cool to see!!

I know! I was bummed by that too. I need to run a better experiment with different concentrations/recipes and make sure I take the cuttings and immediately pot them or put them in water.

Thanks for this. I'm hoping the little bit of thyme I have left will root!! I successfully rooted my flowering shrubs without hormone in soil! I've got round two growing in the seed pods. Keeping fingers crossed.
@NaturesAlwaysRight6 жыл бұрын
Nice Celeste! Hope they work successfully. Ya hormone is totally not necessary as I hope I demonstrated, but it does absolutely help if you have a tricky propagation or something you only have 1 cutting of that you really want to survive.

When you say water, I’m thinking that maybe water from the tap that has presumably chlorine and other additives might not be best, and rain water if possible might be worth trying.

I wonder if rooting cuttings in a dark container produces better/faster/more prolific results. I didn't see you apply the rootone so I assume that it washed off once placed in the water even though the results were better. I'll experiment with a solution of Clonex in a dark container and compare it against a translucent one with just water.
@zinazu3 жыл бұрын
interesting idea! Have you done your experiment with dark and translucent container? I am about to propagate some rosemary and time and it would be helpful to know if there were big differences:)

I know this is an older video and I can say I haven’t watched it completely from beginning to end but do you soak your cuts before planting I just did some cannabis clones and some I didn’t soak others I did. The ones not soaked look a lot different in a bad way then ones soaked they still rooted but there’s a noticeable difference between soaked in distilled water all I used I’ve heard guys soaking in aloe water. Humidity is huge factor in propagation. Cheers
@NaturesAlwaysRight5 жыл бұрын
Rooting in water is best for most cuttings I have found. Easier to do a lot at once too. Yes aloe water or willow water is really great as it has a hormone that helps with rooting.

Isn't peat moss acidic? If I use it for potting mix, I can't use that potting mix for plants that don't like to acidic soil right?
@NaturesAlwaysRight6 жыл бұрын
It is acidic but it is generally blended 1/3 with compost and 1/3 perlite/pumice/vermiculite so that the overall mix becomes more neutral. If you want a more acidic soil do a slightly higher percentage of peat. I sprout seedling trays with just peat moss and vermiculite.
