How to Plant Lawn From Plugs // ProPlugger // DIY Grass Plugs // Zenith Zoysia Grass Plugs

This is a review on how to plant a lawn from plugs using the ProPlugger. I will be harvesting DIY grass plugs from my existing Zenith Zoysia lawn and transplanting them to a bare section of my lawn. Once established, they will take root and spread to fill in the bare area. This is a much cheaper alternative to seeding or sodding.

I bought zosia plugs back in 2005 and planted it and then kept taking plugs from it and now have covered most of my 3 acres with it and I love it . Does not need cut as much and does not need all that fertilizer except when you want it to spread more and extremey drought tolerant . It does get brown for about 2 to 3 months in the winter but who cares . I live in southside va and we have hardly had any rain this years and it is green while all my neighbors looks brown and dead . I started taking up plugs in the spring whe we had some rain and it is taking off . I still have spots to do to fill in and about half acre to go . I did have to put up posts because my neighbor has a guy mow her grass and down here they seem to mow down to dirt and he was coming onto my part so had to put up metal t posts to stop him. I got the pugger when i bought the plugs

I’ve been slowly plugging away on my outer band of zoysia around house. Got the same plugger. Good tool. I’ve got compadre from seed. Love it!

Nice! It definitely has its place. It’s a slower process than seed but sometimes it’s the better alternative if you want to have a slow takeover of an existing yard or have small bare areas to fill.

@@ZoysiaRUs my front yard has zoysia and backyard has a hard time for anything to work, so I think that this’ll work out awesome.

Thanks for your great videos! I want to transplant plugs to another area. However, it’s about time for pre-emergent here in Maryland. How will this affect the old area and new area?

Good question. I don’t know for sure but if I don’t think preemergent will have any affect plugs.

I have zoysia matrella…. I have used the pro plugger…. Works nicely as zoysia is a very slow spreader in my experience…. Zoysia does like sand and does well in it…

Not sure I have that answer. Zenith has been by far a walk in the park compared to fescue. I don’t see how it could get any easier than this. Best bet would be to go to a local supersod or somewhere they have side by side plots so you can see the color.
