I really love these funk lessons. I'm guilty of being too rock/blues oriented. I've been told I have no funk in me. That's not true but I could never seem to get that feel in my playing. So I guess I am a unfunky player. I'm changing that image with every one of your lessons. Thank you! But I still can't dance. Lol!👍🤣

Bro do you do request? Theres a Japanese band from the 70's who's guitar player has a super funky lick he plays that I would like to see you break down. I've been tryin to learn to play like him for years but watching him play its hard to catch his licks but listening to the records it sounds simple as hell. The band is called SHOGUN and the songs with the licks going on are called "Castle Walls", "Lonely Man", and "Yellow Magic" (Under their old band name "One Line Band". The guitarist is Fujimaru Yoshino. Playing like he plays the same rhythm lick in 80% of his songs but it sounds great! Check out their "Lonely Man 1997 Live" video and you see what I'm talking about. I've been tryin to learn that chorus lick for years now. Anyway you could give those a listen and do a breakdown of an obscure but hella popular band lol?

Hey Eric! I’ll start off here by stating the obvious haha! You play great! My biggest problem when doing these types of funk rhythms isn’t really the strumming, it’s when you need to mute certain strings ( aka a lot of Hendrix stuff too ). If I need to do sort of a chuka sound that’s fine as well and obviously easier. Once there’s a rhythm pattern especially when it’s quick and let’s say hypothetically you need to mute the D and A string with one of your fingers on the fretting hand….. that’s when it starts to sound sloppy for me and I wind up butchering it LOL! Anyway, I’m playing about 3 years now or so and I guess it’s just going to take more practice… more practice and then even…. Some more practice!! 🤣 Really dig your feeds man, thanks for all that you do 🤙

That's just it. It is all in the strumming. You have to learn to mute with both hands while the strumming is going on. It is a balancing act at first, but eventually you get it. It helps to be in the room with someone who is doing it. You just pick up the vibe. It is something that is very hard to explain in a video. Thanks for watching Thomas!
