I’ve always loved this song. It is an 80s classic for sure! One of my favorite solos of that era. Scotty Hill created a masterpiece!

Great Song, Great Lesson!!! Crazy story, one of my favorite band late 80s early 90s I was lucky enough to hang with the guys from skid row, during that period. I saw them at Paramount NYC and at Paramount, cards fell from the disco ball to hang with them at Bond Street Cafe. So I jumped some seats at end of show was able to get some of those cards. While at the at Bond Street, drinking at the bar, one of the Crew thought they knew me and asked if I'm going to see them at Meadowlands, I said I'm not sure if I can get out there, they told me, if I do they'd get me backstage. So it was 91' going into 92' unheard of back then I went online, got a ticket at $90 from one of the scalpers. I got 3rd row, dead center, excellent seat. it was a mad house. my thoughts of getting backstage were diminishing. a mosh pit started and seats were collapsing. a girl and I and I'm sure many others were getting crushed by the chaos. so security wound up putting us to side next to stage in a safe place. some time had gone buy i could now breathe fully. I saw a tour bus behind the fence, and somehow saw the guy that offered me backstage, by chance. he came to fence and gave me a backstage pass. things were getting real. so now i wound up backstage, talking to members of skid row and pantara, skid rows family was there so was talking to them also. i remember snake and scotty hill talking about the stock market. I was also wearing a $1000 chainmail shirt that the singer of my band bought and lent me. looked like the one Bas used to wear. Funny enough, i was talking to Bas and Rachel when Dimebag comes over and said, wow this shirt is so cool! he looked at us and pulled out a knife and said stab proof and he jabbed me for a little bit laughing all the way. the only thing i missed from this show, was the performance of ace because I was backstage and was not screw that up. i was able to meet ace a few times over the years. so i hang with everyone someone backstage was talking great photos of us with pro cameras, i still to this day have not found the person who took the photos so could get a copy. I do still have a pantara guitar pick, photos from 3rd row of both bands and this video surfaced from the show on youtube so I have another thing to add to the memory. kzbin.info/www/bejne/jpfKoaxrbrWohLM

Really great tone Marty, especially on the solo! You and I are very close in age, so pretty much all the songs you select to teach are my life's soundtrack. Thanks as always brother.

An underrated tune ! Could you maybe do a video on how to play the new Van Halen “unfinished” track ?? It would be a great way to pay homage to Eddie and teach us some classic VH licks !

18 and Life is a really fun song to play, the solo is manageable up until the shreddy part at the very end that I can’t figure out and I think Scotti plays it a little different every time as I believe it was improvised in the studio. It’s also a song everyone recognizes even casual music listeners. Youth Gone Wild and Monkey Business have some cool and fun riffs as well. I love the first two Skid Row albums. The timing on the last lick feels so weird to me like I know where it starts and where it ends but feels like I’m not able to fit all the notes in. It’s not the notes and patterns it’s the timing to land on that last bend an octave higher than the note the descending lands on right before it, I just can’t seem to get it right with any consistency.

It’s such a throw-back to when I learned to play in the 80s and EVERYTHING was played in the two natural minor shapes. Now that I’ve finally started to learn some songs in major keys I’m all “oh hell I know all these shapes!!!”
