Our director, Jessica D Albino plays this on the Bomba drum and Djembe Drum. We absolutely love playing this fusion pattern of Bomba Funk for the kids and our formal presentations!!!!

It might be interesting to do another version of the intro music that replaces the congas with whatever new drum/instrument is featured in the video, then we get to hear a sneak preview in advance!

Forgive my ignorance, but what is a bingba drum and how might it be related to a Brazilian timba?
@aaronsanchez-guerra95822 жыл бұрын
The bingba is basically a shorter thick wooden version of the brazilian Timbau, which is made of thin metal and has synthetic heads

Timbau/Timba is the Brazilian version of the djembe. It wasn't in widespread use in Brazil until the 1980s when it started to appear in parades in Bahia. It made a good parade drum since it was lightweight and could be strapped on. African djembes were too heavy for this. This bingba reminds me more of the ashikos that are being made in Brazil. However theirs are roped tuned but they do use a cowhide. The Brazilian version of the ashiko sounds like a conga. Most African ashikos use a goatskin which makes them sound like a djembe.

Hola Eric! Great Video!! Question for you what is the difference between the Bingba that you demonstrated from a traditional Nigerian Ashiko?? The ashiko introduced to the US by Moses Mianns and made even more popular by Babatunde Olatunji has that amazing bass tone, the wonderful open tones plus a definite dry pop slap. Is the Moperc just using a different name for this traditional yoruba drum. I have several and sometimes add one to my conga set when we are playing a few Bembe or Kizonga tunes along with the salsas, merengues. Love your channel!! Keep up the amazing work!! Charlie

I think the heavier maple wood gives a slightly richer, fuller, warmer open tone. Maple gets my vote.

I think the 'cherry' had more 'vibrato' . the 'maple' is "sharper"?
@marktaz12 жыл бұрын
The maple is the one I like better ... more vivid tones overall. BTW, Eric ... from the video, the head with the 6 lugs looks a bit bigger than the one with five lugs. Am I seeing things? Thanks for doing another video about the Bingba!

Nice funky 60's feel. Who's the band or is it an original tune by the way?
