I'm surprised you didn't mention two amazing high level spells for Divine Soul Sorcerers. Bestow Curse and Contagion are absolutely hilariously good on a Divine Soul Sorcerer. Green Hawk, it's been a year. How did this build play out. I've been looking into making the same thing. I'm about to start my first game and was wondering if being in melee was working with the lower hp of the sorc. I've done my research but couldn't find anything on this particular MC. Do you have any tips to help? Thanks in advance for any help you can give.
@greenhawk37962 жыл бұрын
@@nathans.3618 i've only had the chance to play it in a handful of oneshots, but the key is to make sure you and your DM really know how your MC works, and what kind of nonsense you can do (like creating additional spell slots craziness). Make sure you also go sorc first for the constitution prof, make sure you take spells that dont have too much concentration and either immobilize enemies or enhance your weapon attacks/damage, and lastly make sure you know when to disengage. Make sure you take the pact weapon invocations, and if you dont get war caster, take the invocation that lets you have advantage on concentration. Dont fall for trap spells like hex (switch it out when you can, which is on level up i believe) and remember to focus on single target damage. Dont be afraid to eldritch smite on your first attack even if it doesnt crit. Personally i like taking spells for out of combat, and then burning the slots for smite or converting. You can become a sorta omnipotent being with spells such as detect thoughts, and zone of truth, while also being this mysterious wrath/mercy of god entity. I got a lil rambly, but hope this answered your question. Just remember what your intent is. You are a melee warrior enhanced by gods to do their bidding, use eldritch blast from a distance and let enemies come to you... and dont forget that with the right invocation/pact you can have pretty much any weapon, not just melee.

I'm so glad this wasn't an April Fools joke! I've been asking for this video for a year and I'm so happy with this end product! One thing not mentioned extensively is the pairing of distant spell metamagic and all of the touch spells. Being able to cast touch spells from a distance of 30ft or short range spells like healing word from much greater distances is potentially huge. Especially for campaigns with long sight lines such as a ocean campaign. Anyway loved the video!
@TheZandaz3 жыл бұрын
The Extended spell on Aid etc is a great way to make use of any leftover slots at the end of an adventuring day. Spirit Guardians note: if the enemies have a choice between stabbing you ad being torn to shreds by spirits, or stabbing your friend and not being torn to shreds by them, they probs won't go for you. So it's effective even if you're not in the very thick of combat.
@nathansmith9597 Жыл бұрын
Late as hell but I was going to mention this! There's also Death Ward, Mage Armor (cast it on familiars and pets too!), etc. - between the two spell lists, you can effectively get extra spell slots. If the DM allows Gift of Alacrity spell, pick that up with Fey Touched, and give everyone a boost to initiative. This is also one easy way to translate the Elves' Trance feature (only 4 hours for a long rest) into a direct mechanical advantage, as you'll start adventuring with 12 hours of buffs. Take Inspiring Leader and you can deliver a ton of passive support to the whole party. There's a large opportunity cost due to limited spells known for Divine Soul, and you won't be able to apply all the buffs if you had a rough day of combat and had to use most of your slots, so I wouldn't say it is broken. But it is very strong.

for a feat to synergize even more with the cleric touch range spells would be ritual caster or magic initiate for access to the wizard spell list, which then lets you take find familiar. presto, your owl swoops to within 5 feet of your target, and you can now pass your touch spells into your target from the safety of 100 feet away.

I'm currently playing a Changeling Divine Soul of the chaotic affinity. It is super fun and very flexible; last session I spent most of a combat in the midst of the melee, ACd up with Mage Armor and Haste on myself, Shillelagh (magic initiate feat) and green-flame blade, quickening Cure Wounds when someone went down and swinging away with two actions. Imitation gish? Maybe, but very satisfying

I'm currently playing a Divine Soul Sorc... it's awesome. If you want to add a bit of versatility to it, just dip into Cleric, you get the utility cantrips (Guidance, Thaumaturgy, Mending), you get to prepare some 1st level cleric spells and you can also get Heavy Armor Proficiency with some Domains, besides shields and other lighter armors. Flavour-wise, it also combines well with that divine connection.

distant spell metamagic is also super useful, as sorcerors are kinda squishy, so using spells like inflict wounds that have a range of touch, from 30 ft away is super useful

Quicken Spell is incredible if you have access to Vampiric Touch, letting you hit twice with it on the first turn. Otherwise Glyph of Warding can be so potent, letting you stack up multiple spells that would normally require concentration such as a glyph of flying while twinning greater Invis on yourself and others.. Brutal!

Playing divine soul sorc right now. I had to pick subtle due to the nature of the campaign (medieval Slavic culture with almost no magic, literally backstory is that I was unsuccessfully burned at the stake for witchcraft as a boy), then picked twinned. And boy oh boy twinned is just a spectacular thing. Twinned Sanctuary, twinned guiding bolt. Later on twinned Haste, ooof. Soon will be level 8 and by picking metamagic adept I'll be picking extended and quickened. Those extended high level Aid and Death Ward spells right before long rest will be spicy.

I'm a DM, one of my players is a kid (12-13) and his first ever character was a Half-Orc Divine Soul Sorcerer. He used Tasha's variant for the CHA, and I changed up his Savage Attacks to where it worked with critical spell attacks instead of critical melee attacks (called it "Berserk Mage") I think he was 5 levels in before he realized that clerics had some powerful non-healing spells lol. Still used fireball a lot.

MOst people think of telekinnetic as push people around, but forget you get an invisible mage hand!. Telepathic also fits with the sorcerer, and the detect thought spell is a nice thing to have. Fey/Shadow touched also are nice. you can, for instance, use one of them to pick up mage armor I think with fey touched? hand Misty step is always a nice get out of trouble thing tohave until you can fly. Other good spells in fey touched are bane? silvery bards (I think). Metamagic adept is nice to take early on, I agree. (as for not useful on other classes,I found bards can benefit from this feat picking up subtle spells). Ritual caster is a very nice thign to have! I agree with taking twinned spell!. Spells I'd take is Guiding bolt indeed! I like sacred flame a lot, and Guidiance are cool stuff to have. I also like shield of faith and Mage armor. Hightened spell is a metamagic to take! Bless & Bane are so usefull as well. Normally I'd say take subtle spell on most classes. I don't always do it on this class, though. I usually start with quickened & hightened, then extended and twinned, and go to something else after that.

I'm playing a Divine Soul assimar currently, and I love her. She's a blaster, utility, and a secondary healer. She's good for when the main healer is down to just get them back up and keep the party alive. Aside from that, her charisma is good for deescalating situations. The funniest moment with her had to be when my sister the DM had us investigating a murder mystery. We went to examine the body and I was like "How long has she been dead?" My sister replied, "Less than a day- oh, shit." And I proceeded to raise dead on our murder victim. We found out our initial suspect was not involved in her death and were directed to where she actually died. It was hilarious. And then I found out she came back different, turned out she was now a shadow sorcerer herself, and I have potentially been pissing off the Raven Queen interfering in the forces of life and death.

I played a Divine Soul Sorcerer with an initial one level dip as a Death domain Cleric. Most notably this got the character the ability to cast cleric spells as rituals, medium armour, martial weapons and Reaper. The character was a variant human, but this was before TCoE and I took Resilient (Dex) as my 1st level feat to get my Dex to 14 (to cap medium armour AC) and proficiency with Dex saves.

Divine Soul 19/Life Cleric 1 can be built as the best healer in the game. Change my mind. Anyway, one time our party was against a small army of Red Wizards of Thay. We spread out to help avoid AoEs, but nothing escapes a Meteor Swarm, and absolutely nothing escapes three Meteor Swarms. Half the party fell unconscious in the first round; the rest of us were on our last legs. My DSS was up after the archmages though, and was clinging onto life by the grace of the Tough feat. He flew to the middle of the battlefield, between his injured allies, using a bonus action on the way to restore half his own HP. He cast a spell which one archmage was in range to counter, but lo, he returned a Counterspell of his own. His spell carried through: a Distant Mass Heal which had the range and the juice (thanks to Disciple of Life giving an extra 11 each) to restore the whole party to maximum hit points. Our retribution was swift. Thanks for coming to my TED Talk.

Normally I am a forever DM but; I just ran a Divine Soul Sorcerer at this past weekend's FGU GaryCon13 (3/25/21--3/28/21) in the adventure "From the Marsh". When the party was getting swarmed by summoned giant frogs, I just levitated out of melee range, cast spiritual weapon, and broke the frogfolk's concentration. Being able to use spiritual weapon as bonus action while concentrating on another spell (like levitate), and still being free to cast another spell as your action gives this subclass an edge in the critical action economy. Definitely more of a support character than one normally expects out of a sorcerer but to use Dungeon Dudes terminology "very clutch."

I'm playing a Shadow Sorcerer and there's also a Divine Soul Sorcerer in the party. I love how Sorcerers being so focused instead of being the swiss army knives like Clerics or Wizards makes it easy to have two Sorcerers in our party that aren't stepping on each other's toes at all. He does some healing with Healing Word, some buffs (Bless, twinned Haste or twinned Polymorph), and tosses around some Fireballs. I cast debuffs like Bane (from Fey touched), Hold Person, Blindness/Deafness, or Slow, and I summon a Hound of Ill Omen fairly often as well. I also use Tasha's Mind Whip, Mind Sliver, or Chill Touch to completely master the debuffs category. We are two Sorcerers in a party of four, but we're completely not stepping on each others' toes at all because Sorcerers are so much more specialized than Clerics or Wizards are.

Good video! I've played a divine soul from 3 to 13, and you hit most of the major points I'd cover. Nice idea with Spirit Guardians! I'm getting my wings next level and hadn't considered how that would interact with the spell. I'll have to look hard at that one. I agree that twin spell is incredibly potent with a divine soul, and not just in combat. For example, my character has changed the trajectory of a campaign with a well-placed twinned resurrection. They were NPC members of royal families from neighboring kingdoms whose deaths helped set off the events of the campaign. BBEG was trying to start a war between them. Since this is a campaign that's very heavy on the story, their return will definitely have far-reaching consequences, not just for the campaign arc but for society as a whole.

I play a divine soul sorcerer swiftstride shifter with Mobile. Twin cast Haste, Spiritual Weapon and a crossbow gives me 3 attacks while hasting a fighter, monk or barbarian while running 100ft a round. Also Distant Spell is great for them. Casting revivify or cure wounds from 30ft away is quite useful.

I like Sorlock Divine Soul using Spirit Guardians and Lance of Lethargy, basically dropping enemies to 5ft movement (if they had 30 to begin with). If multiple enemies, quicken spell ray of frost to slow another creature down keeping them in Spirit Guardians and away from you. Or classic Hex plus quickened eldritch blast and spiritual weapon gives you 5 attacks in one round with 5 hex's on top for good single target dmg.

I tried to use it to make deals with Celestial, Fey, and Fiend alike, sort of playing detective on things by asking creatures questions and doing stuff in return, often making persuasion and deception rolls in the process. Planning ahead, me and another PC actually talked with our GM. My friend was a Paladin who wanted to multiclass into Warlock mostly for those sweet Warlock Cantrips (Eldritch Blast) and invocations. With some thematic planning on both our parts, I summoned a Solar and acted as a diplomat for the Paladin. Needless to say, he got what he wanted.

@@Exisist5151 For me, at very least, what makes the Four Elements Monk so bad is the discrepancy in the promise and delivery. The subclass promised an Avatar-like bender where you can control the four elements and have that be the main thing your character does, it does not deliver that, as well as being very weak. If it was designed as a monk that just dabbled in a bit of elemental magic it still would suck, but it would not be as hated.
@maid_of_heart32613 жыл бұрын
@@thebranchyboi It really does not deliver on what it promised. With the new optional rules in Tasha's you can make a somewhat decent 4 elements monk build but it won't be as potent as an open hand or a kensei monk (you can combine Polearm Master, Ki-Fueled Attack and Water Whip to pull an enemy close and hit them twice with a quarterstaff for a nice amount of damage, but it does cost you your action, bonus action, reaction and 2 or more ki points to do so)
