This episode is dedicated to my buddy Alex, who complained about Ace-King so many times we made a whole episode about it.

I limp raised AK yesterday against an extremely aggressive player who routinely punished limpers to abnormally large sizes on the button (75 in a 2/5 game). With 1000 behind I 3 bet to 300 and he made a very reluctant call. The flop was 10 6 2 rainbow. I checked he led out for 3/4 pot and I jammed. He tank folded but I wonder what is the EV of always playing your AK like AA

Great video but the mic volume on the bottom guy is criminally low and uneven. Jarring when you increase the volume and then the top guy chimes in and it's too loud

How do you remember all this in a game? Memorizing doesn’t seem like the right strategy because too many variables it’s unlikely to hit exact same situation. I’m a lab member and I feel like the concepts introduced there assume I possess knowledge that I don’t have. Any recommendations?

maybe you need to study the fundamentals of the game. try reading the morden poker theory book. everything will be more clear when you understand why we betting, the benefits from the position and the reasons behind it

noob question but why does rake make us want to 3bet more. like you say around 2:30 that “the rake is so high we can’t afford to flat AK” (or something like that). I also hear this a lot when talking about sb preflop strategies (i.e the fact we should only 3b or fold) Aren’t we paying proportionally the same in rake no matter what? or is the point that since we can win the pot preflop without rake thats why we want to 3b?
@UpswingPoker
@UpswingPoker Жыл бұрын
when rake is high, the "calling" option takes the biggest hit. By calling, you set yourself up to play postflop, and that's when the poker site/casino will take the rake. In other words, you're more incentivized to win the pot preflop, so you call less and 3-bet more.

I would appreciate an episode on tilting and how to prevent it from happening. I myself have lost a lot of money on unnecessary mood swings and trying to get revenge on someone I'm annoyed with for some reason.

@@adean4146 Yes, but the simple is difficult to implement, at least for me. And it doesn't matter much if you play technically well in the upswing when you burn everything in the downswing.
@adean4146
@adean4146 Жыл бұрын
but if you know you play well in the down swing just remind yourself it is part of the game, and if you feel you are playing bad study more take a break, what I found helps is timing sessions, if I lose a lot of buy ins in the first hour I take a break, then be honest is the pool better than me, am I not studied or confident, or is it a lot of fishy getting lucky, bad beats, or maniacs, normally then I am motivated to carry on, become break even or winning over then day, or just slightly loosing, you can't win every session! try to remind yourself how you play a hand if you're not tilted, feel proud to fold, set a stop loss, take a long break if chasing it back makes you play worse, really what I meant is if you know it is a problem, then you need to notice it when it happens and strengthen yourself, find discipline, slow down. Prevention comes from knowing you played it well and they just got lucky or it might have been a bad beat even a cooler, (what could you do about a better full house, quads what even hardly comes, kings vs aces dam it move on, aces cracked, well you'll crack and cooler them many times too) and being disciplined, if you're unsure save the hand and forget about it until later, check it out, some people loose over 3 months straight, and win well over the other 9 months, you could win 3 sessions loose 6 win 10 loose 2 win 5 loose 1 win 1 loose 2 loose 2 loose 4 loose 1 loose loose and then win 4 loose 1 win 6.... you are going to loose and just get comfy with that, if you can see a profit over a decent sample, say 100k 200k @@peteradnell

Take care of what you need to take care of. Being unhappy in your life is the quickest way to tilt. Set short term goals to build momentum and then long term goals to remember why you are doing this. The best advice I have ever received is from upswing: it’s a marathon. And my advice: get your dopamine boosts from other, productive sources. Like taking care of yourself or people you love.

usually calling. Against extremely tight players who you know aren't messing around, you can consider a heroic fold. Just gotta be careful because even against a strong range, you may be priced in to call.
