This is actually a pretty good beginner lesson because 1-4-5 chords are so common and this has a 6th chord to so you are learning how some of the most frequent chord changes sound. Really useful stuff to get your head around if you're in a cover band.

I've been playing again for about a year and a half. I've forgotten most of what i learned as a younger man when I was actually quite good at this instrument. I subscribe to your channel, I watch and learn a lot from the videos, but i have to say THIS one reopened my eyes. THIS one made my playing so much more fun and so much less arduous; the hitting the Key notes, the playing up to and around them has become so much more...FUN!!! You may or may not see this comment, but I want to thank you for the video: THIS, TO ME, IS A REVIVAL OF WHY I STARTED PLAYING BASS AGAIN!!!! THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!

Man, I LOVE your tutorials. I'm a medium level beginner...I can get up to speed easily with your explanations of the logic and how you breakdown the riffs, and especially how its easy to see your fingering (something I can't say for the majority of online tutorials). I only wish at the end you go all the way...after showing us how to jam with this basic technique, then show us how the actual bass line goes on the recording so we can take it up to the final notch (before we then go beyond it LOL) Keep it up, you're making me a better player!

Dude, not one of the best, but the best bass lesson I have seen on KZbin. You are the only one that has gone over timing, bars, progressions, and how it is all related.

James, thank you! I had previously spent way too much time trying to learn that song! You broke it down into simple logical steps. Seems also, that what you covered is basically the recipe (beyond playing root notes) for accompanying and improvising to any chord sequence. Cheers!

Great video and a very practical way to learn new songs quickly. It is much easier to remember anything if the material makes sense and is understood. This goes for anything and not just songs. I always used to want to play "just like the record" note for note. This was more for a personal challenge I guess. Once I got it under the fingers, then I'd start to improvised anyway so what was the point? I did look to the original after watching this, just to pick up some ideas for alternatives to the simple riff you suggested here. I guess that was the idea? Get it down then play with it as you see fit. That worked for me, just adding some longer notes here and there to add a bit of spice to the rhythm works a treat. Thanks again.

Unless this is for a very beginner level, I don't get it. The chords are correct, but the groove is totally the wrong. Learning this makes no sence to me when with just a little more effort one can learn the actual bass line.
@ebassguitar
@ebassguitar 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Javier This lesson is designed for beginners but also designed for folks who want to have real understand of how to create bass lines and do not just want to copy tabs. The fundamental groove is the same with the note on the first beat of the bar and the push on 2+. That would be worth checking out and comparing... Yes this is simplification but the core thinking is very fundamental.
