So enjoying these videos, Eric. I’m almost 61 and took up hand drums and percussion at 57. Took lessons for about three years and feel like I’m getting fairly good for someone who doesn’t play every day. I’ve been incorporating tap into my Rhythm since I was a former professional dancer. I love all things percussion and I would love just one lesson from you!

Love it. Really get a lot from your video. I’ve been playing for just two years - now 59 years old! My back made me give up tap dancing, so now I’m tapping with my hands 👊🏻

This funk pattern has literally become my foundational pattern for any Funk that I've now play. It is so encompassing, and I can take different pieces of it and crate different rhythms off of a particular section. Thank you very much for sharing your knowledge Eric. -Gerry

@Squirrelconga5 жыл бұрын
Manuel, I friend of mine always has me show him that song. Trick is, it is one of those songs that alot of other instruments don't always play the rhythm that spot on. I play a lot of duos with just myself and a guitar player. Without the keys, the feel is often interpreted very differently! Haha So, once you think you have it, and they call it out. Know the part that you have in your head, but be flexible to line it up with whatever bastardization they have done to it...not everyone is Steve Winwood or Leon Russell (keys)

A really cool groove that would be great for you to break down is the groove starting at :59 on Ghana Spice by Candido. I have to admit, the more I play, I gravitate to more African rhythms vs tumbaos. Perhaps a series for conga players interested in music that is not heavily rooted in Latin Jazz but rather the conga playing heard in jazz from the 60’s/70’s ( Herbie, Miles, etc) or African music like Fela, and other forms of music that explore the African side of conga playing?

Hello Eric ! I'm really impressed by how our your congas sound. So warm and precise. I know it's your skill too, the way you hit them. but damn I just bought two differents pair of congas and they are far from that beautiful sound. I must confess they are not top end congas... but it's night and day. They have far more unwanted resonances. What do you think play the biggest role ? the head ? the skin ? the wood body ?

nice groove (sabrosa), I find that it would probably work best if there is no drummer giving that you are doing a basic funk kit groove, kick and snare align with your major beats, a basic tumbao usually works best in my opinion when doing funk, of course ultimately it's the band leader who will decide what he/she likes best, thanks for the post
