Hello FunkyScott, i really wanted to know what is best way to play N64 games on Wii U (like the first Paper Mario in my case), because I know that N64 VC on Wii U has a dark filter and I don’t like it very much (also heard that there is an input lag issue with this VC version but not sure about that). So, with all the possibilities and benefits of a modded Wii U, i’m asking myself (and now you too) what is best way to play Paper Mario 64, is it still the Wii U VC version and I can find a way to remove this dark filter? Is it enough if turn the brightness up to the maximum on my TV? Should I go with the Wii VC that don’t have this dark filter but is maybe in a less good resolution? N64 emulator on Wii U with RetroArch? Another way that I don’t even know about? Thank you, if anyone have an answer for me! ☺️

I can confirm this also works with the Wii U's "virtual Wii" mode.

Classic controller would be best, but you could always get a usb adapter for gcn controllers

Another option is just buying the GameCube compatible wii off of eBay. I got one for like 40$. But like funkyscott said it’s just best to buy a wii classic or wii classic controller pro, whihc just has proper grips and shoulder buttons.

If you have the wad, it might just be your console freezing, I've had that happen with a couple wiis before. I just kept trying and eventually made it through
