This guitar lesson shows how-to-play the song Gunpowder & Lead by Miranda Lambert. This lesson covers the intro, verse and chorus sections of the song. I tune down my A string for the Open G Tuning effect. It makes this song much easier to play.

Very nice with the detuned "A". I've been trying to make it work in normal tuning and its close, but the closing descending lick works so well this way. "Subscribed"

Thanks Gary! I'm sure it will work in normal tuning by just holding down the 3rd fret on the low E string and using that as the droning G note but it seemed easier with the detuned A. I use the Variax for live shows so it is just a flick of a switch to get into the detuned mode. But that won't work so well with a regular guitar.

While I can't afford the Variax, I'been thinking about the Peavey A200? with the tuning software. I could fret the "B" on the A string, hit the tuning effect and have a dropped G. Still on the fence about it. Maybe if my country combo picks up a little more steam.

Gary Gordon I have not heard of the A200, but I will check it out. The new Variax guitars are expensive. I have the older models. They work pretty good.

Check out timarastringbnders.com He makes a string drop that works great for most guitars. I use one on all my guitars I use for country gigs for a quick drop-D tuning and it could be used on the 'A' string as well for this application. I have used these for several years and Tim Wallis' design is superior to the Hipshot and another one I tried (whose name escapes me). Great product I recommend to all my gigging friends.

you Don't have to do anything to the A string... it's the same basic chords that are used in Smoke on the water when you get right down to it lol.. I'm 29 and all I did was watch her on stage ON KZbin... stop complicating things... 90% of the time you can just bar everything and say to heck with it... drunks in bars are still gonna tip ya :-D
