Very useful video. As guitare/bass player, it is really nice to have the main drum part well explained with different straight/ swing feel exemple. I would love to have the B part explained and the percussion interaction ! Thank you so much !!!!

Really appreciate this type lesson Geoff. As a beginner I like the way this gives me something that sounds good to practice. Obviously the coordination exercises are necessary, but I have found this, and the previous lesson, are something that my ears can latch onto and this makes it a lot easier to practice. This, for me, is somewhat related to a lesson you did on hertas where told us that one can think about it "very fast slow." This helps beginners like me hear and feel what it is supposed to sound like rather than just the notes on the page. I know the sound is the point of it all, but when learning the basics it can be rather dry without something that has some feel and groove to it. Thank you again.

I’m so curious about how to approach the 2nd half of the headhunters recording of this tune. Which no band I’ve ever played this song with seems to attempt

You are swinging that beat quite a bit differently than the actual beat. The left hand part has defined breaks at specific points, not constantly swinging like this.

you sound like you know the groove very well? maybe you should avoid How to play tutorials? or make your own?

@@GeoffFryDrummer I was checking this out, just out of curiosity. But apparently you are fine with creating tutorials that aren't even playing the correct notes. Pro tip use AI to isolate the drum track and actually listen to the beat you are "teaching" people.
