11:00 Would the Goblin behind the bookshelf be revealed in this instance (if the player just stepped onto the first tile in the room in front of the door), since there is no line of sight?
@adamshobbystuff5 ай бұрын
In the guide for the player who is Zargon it tells you to set up items only in line of sight as they move around the corridors etc, it also says when a hero opens a door to set up all items and monsters that belong in the room, line of sight done 2 different ways depending on the area.
@Dohko-Libra2 жыл бұрын
At 10:00 you show that with a crossbow I cannot shoot the orc because he's behind the cupboard and the elf can't see him. But let's say one of those goblins instead was on the other side of the table, can the elf see the goblin even though the table crosses LOS between elf and goblin?
@adamshobbystuff2 жыл бұрын
I may be drifting into house rule territory here but we play that you can shoot over tables etc if you can see the enemy. Cupboards/doors etc when closed fully block the models and that’s what’s spoken about in the rule book. We always play if you can see it you can shoot it.

You can cast the spells only once per adventure ie - once in the dungeon you are currently exploring. Use them carefully!

Quick question. At the beginning you say that you can't move in the middle of an action, but then you continue moving after opening a door. Is that because it was, as you said opening a door was, a free action?

Do monsters move based on zargons choices per turn or based only on the quest instructions ?

I have the original version. On each dice roll you have to choose between searching for secret doors, treasure or traps. Only rule im not too happy about. You could just enter a room and just waste two goes asking for traps then asking for treasure. Almost seems pointless. Feel this mechanic needs changing.
@adamshobbystuff11 ай бұрын
I know what you mean, it can sometimes be annoying feeling like you’ve wasted a turn searching for none existing traps/hidden doors, it is hilarious when you are GM and people forget and then fall in a pit trap though…

Does using an item card of any kind count as an action on a player's turn?
@adamshobbystuff Жыл бұрын
If the card is linked to one of the hero’s actions eg cast a spell or attack then yes, if it’s another type of card then no (at least that’s how we play it!)
@aaronpinder7071 Жыл бұрын
@@adamshobbystuff I get that. What about a healing potions or a potion that buffs attacks since there are spell counterparts?

We’ve always played them as they don’t count as an action as that isn’t listed in the types of action section. I have downloaded the q+a a while back and that seems to say the same thing.

In my experience, when you play HeroQuest, there should always be a certain DnD flair to it. Don't show the stats of your monsters. Let them roam the dungeon, flee, get reinforcements. Roleplay their behavior and attacks. Don't just draw the cards and do what they say, build a narrative, etc.
@adamshobbystuff Жыл бұрын
Only done none game designed levels a couple of times in between playing the base game and the expansions, drew up a map in the blank sections at the back of the manual and tracked where the monsters were, didn’t hide the stats though, that could be an interesting build.

I'm confused about using a spell of healing if your character has died, in the rule book it states you can only use the spell of healing to save your life if you have not taken an action on your last turn. Does that mean you can only use the spell of healing to save your life if you only took the movement action and not attack action on your last turn?
@adamshobbystuff2 жыл бұрын
We had the very same thing happen 2 nights ago when the elf got killed (happy to report the whole family has got into this one!) we took the quick decision that as they hadn’t cast a spell last turn they could use one as it didn’t feel right stopping it because of movement. Did have a look later on to see if there was an official clarification but couldn’t find one?
@skinnyandshort71082 жыл бұрын
@@adamshobbystuff Yeah it's on page 21 of the rule book about how a hero life can be saved if they are reduced to zero hit points. It does not make sense to me, as it says "If you are a spellcaster with a healing spell, and you have not already performed an action on your turn, you can be healed by casting the spell on yourself" How would I not have performed an action on my last turn unless I just chose to stand still and do nothing for some odd reason lol.
@ValiantDWC2 жыл бұрын
@@skinnyandshort7108 An example would be, a wizard moving sets off a trap that would kill the wizard. The Wizard, having not taken an action this turn (just movement), could cast a spell to save themself. If they had taken an action this turn (for example again), then moved and set off the trap, they could not cast the saving spell as they already had taken an action.... If the wizard had had already done their turn (moved and action, or action and moved) and was later that round attacked by a monster and reduced to zero body points, they COULD cast a spell to save themself, following the RAW (rules as written) because their previous turn was over when they had moved and acted. Hope that clarifies the rule.

No body seems to know orthogonally but understand diagonally perfectly well. movement is orthogon.
@adamshobbystuff Жыл бұрын
I think for the most part orthogonally is understood as a mathematical term rather than a ‘real world’ one, I have seen a fair few smaller games using the terminology when describing movement but I think major companies go for the keep it simple approach, interestingly my lad came out with it playing chess just after he started taking further maths!
