Just heard Dickie Betts has died. He was a big influence on my playing and that of many others as well. He left us some great tunes. Thanks Kelly for all your lessons.

Yep, great musician and my first concert. I loved the Don't Say No album and this song was the first i heard from him. 14 years old I went without lunch all week to get the money then walked 3 miles to the mall and 3 miles back with my record in hand. Music seemed more personal back then. I remember hearing all the songs on that record and falling in love with the heavy guitar pop song structure type music. My next record was Def Leppard High N Dry. Emotion's in Motion had some great stuff as well.

Hi Kelly, Fellow Canadian and new to Guitar. I had to give up Hockey and other stuff due to some health issues. So I stopped at a guitar centre in Southfield MI and bought my first guitar. Nights and weekends when I have time I watch and rewatch your videos and play along. Thank you for all you do and I really enjoy the songs you pick. Still working on Thin Lizzy but this tune is next.

GREAT lesson choice!! One of my most favorite tracks from him. I think folks shy away from teaching this one because of the presence of the keyboards but I’m glad you saw past that. Cool guitar parts here, and a great song! Nicely tight as usual KDA! Thanks.

Not only the video, but I believe Def Leppard was opening for him right after Pyromania came out. They overshadowed him for sure. ‘Don’t say no’ was a great album, and part of my youth. Right around the time I was starting on guitar. Awesome lesson again!

I still can't believe it happened - sudden fall from grace. If you think about tit, if that happened today it would be no issue at all with current culture norms. The world at that time was quite different and he was unfortunately cancelled for something so minor as agreeing to what the video director suggested/instructed.

The question to ask is...if you were a fan, what does it say about you for not liking his music anymore?
@buckbryant85998 ай бұрын
Yeah someone involved or Billy himself, should have said hey this is not a good idea. I remember watching that video as a 17 year old guy thinking what in the world. But I had the album and there is some good songs on there.
@travismiles58858 ай бұрын
I think his girlfriend at the time knew the director and got Billy to hire him. Billy had a completely different idea for the video, he wanted it about a kid getting ready to go to a concert. For whatever reason his girlfriend and the director talked him out of that and now we have that abomination. I love the song but remember seeing the video and thinking "Wtf is this sh*t?" I was 9 or 10 at the time and knew it was bad.
@buckbryant85998 ай бұрын
Yeah I saw an interview with Billy and he pretty much said what you did. And they that video a lot too.

It wasn't the video. There's plenty of freaking goofed up m. TV videos, it was because he wouldn't play by their rules. He wouldn't do what they said. He did it his way from day one. It was always about the music with billy
@buzzedalldrink91319 ай бұрын
Billy should have known it was not going to end well when someone thinks it’s a good idea for you to put on tights and prance around .He should’ve been smarter than that, so he really did it to himself. Too bad I did like him….. until then.

His promoters made him look really gay when nobody thought gay was cool. His video was a shameful effort to paint him as androgenous . It worked but nobody was buying it.
