I’ve been a BTO fan since 1974. When I saw the chords to this song, I thought “well that’s just too hard”. Thank you so much for showing and explaining how it’s done. I love the Randy Bachman story and his friendship with Lenny Breau. I really appreciate your skills and the way you teach. Greetings from Australia.

Excellent lesson! Broken down for us so clearly, played slowly so we can play along, then faster, with lots of extra explanations and shortcuts. Lesson length is perfect, as we stop and start your lesson as where need be and as often as we like. A+

I don't know if it's me but it seems that these Canadian guitar guys like this jazz stuff in their R&R. Bachman here and in the song "Blue Collar", Rik Emmitt "Suitcase Blues", Alex Lifeson. So many more just seem to be brought up with a little different style of music than most Americans. It's way cool and a great lesson for a old man like me.

Hi Shane, thanks for sharing. I want to learn this song as a homework assignment for my guitarlessons and record an instrumental cover version of it. Amazing that there are no guitar pro files of this fantastic song. Your worksheet and video are a great help. Grtz from the Netherlands

Great tutorial and excellent execution on the finger picking....wish I could grow finger nails like that......but seriously, Randy Bachman recorded an abbreviated video lesson on this famous song of his and he kind of oversimplified it as well as teaching a few cheat chords. This is anything but a simple song for a lot of reasons, but it is fair to say that there are many chord voicings one can use to capture the essence of Looking Out without having to force so many awkward stretches and incredibly difficult chord grips. Putting it all together in the proper meter as the song is broken into different segments featuring different time signatures........wow, some accomplishment. Then, how about adding a tutorial that explains how Randy does that intricate jazz soloing over the chord progressions, then you really have something.....Mr. Bachman has special techniques he incorporates into the solo sections where he crafts all sorts of slick tonal slurs by modulating the volume/tone dials on his electric guitar while fingering the solo passages.....an incredible guitar song melding rock, Latin, jazz in a fusion or witches brew of creativity.
