I'd been playing something for a while, and no-one could explain what it was. Eventually I found it was based on 3 note harmonisied stacked 4ths, but omitting the centre note. I still don't know if there's a specific name for it, but if you use a harmonised stack of 3 4ths, it's a useful option to omit the centre note, knowing how the remaining 2 harmonise.

To spruce up the quartal chords, what passing chords would pair well with them?

You can use the other 4th voicings as passing chords, or just use other voicing types for D-, like D-9 or other D- voicings. Another option is to use FMaj.7 voicings as substitutes for D- voicings.
