The solo in this song still gives me chills on my neck . I like a lot of heavy music but when it gives me chills it’s a whole different level . I know it’s mostly pentatonic. It’s not about the notes and sequence it’s the intangible feel, tone , and phasing the true greats have . The stank and swagger they bring. Dime’s solo in Floods is another chill inducing solo for me .

imo that song is Zakk at his most brilliant. The solo in particular is a masterclass in taste/chops and building gradually to a frenzied finish. He's such an amazing player that must have been seriously cool to have him show you those tunes like he did! Thank you for this great lesson! love that tone btw!

If you listen to the isolated guitar track that's available on KZbin, it reveals what's really going on in this song. First example is the first slide guitar part. There are two tracks here, so you aren't technically incorrect (the main guitar track continues the slide from the 5th fret on the D and G), however if you're playing this live I think it sounds better to start at the 3rd fret. If you're playing the guitar part without a slide, you can simply bend the D and G strings on the third fret and slide up to the 7th fret on those same strings (I personally wouldn't recommend trying to juggle a slide playing this song live). Sounds like Zakk taught you a version that he started to play live, but I'd recommend listening to the isolated track. Another good example is the pre-chorus; on the studio recording Zakk is playing something closer to what you originally played but with no low E, A, or D string, not the raised 6th interval you play. He's just playing the 4th fret on the G and the 5th fret on the B (and progresses one semitone upward). Love the racked Marshall stuff, btw! Cheers

I am so glad I found this channel! Thank you for clearing some stuff out. I still have a hard time getting the pinch notes right for this song at that string and that fret. I think I maybe need some more distorsion. Or drop it to an e flat and drop D from there? Zakk must be the best guitarist after Randy as I see it.

This video is great. This song, and "Bark at the Moon" might be my favorite Ozzy songs. After that, all the Randy Rhoads stuff. I actually learned how to play a little bit of this song years ago. The main chunky riff. It's not too hard. I should get off my butt and try to learn more of it. This video gives me no excuse not to do it now. LoL! I think I can handle most of it. The lead parts will be the hardest for me. Bending and fast alternate picking on 2 strings is still tough for me. Hard to play it clean. If there was arpeggio sweeping..... forget it. I can't do that stuff.

@@EugeValovirta230V Wow! Thanks for the incredibly quick reply. Your hands on experience and knowledge, and skill is off the charts Bro! This is priceless!!! I've seen many videos on KZbin and some convinced you have to plug the pedals in the back of the Amp (which I assume is wrong information). Your attention to detail and even the exact knob dial points are everything I could ever ask for. I personally don't have any of those pedals right now. And was just considering something like Amplitude with Toneex Pedal, or IRig, etc. I am so glad I found your channel! Best ever!

Those Tokai LP's are awesome guitars, I have 2, A custom order Gold Top and a prototype LS180, with LS320 specs {the two guitars on the right in my avatar, the white one is a Greco, also great and the other is a Bacchus}, both are incredibly well made {both Honduran mahogany} and they are better than any Gibson I've played over the last 40 years of playing...!! Great video...

Yes indeed! I recently had a change to play Thomas Blug’s ’68 Gibson LP when we did the Academy of Tone (kzbin.info/www/bejne/in62aZZoa7eJgbM) and that was amazing but in general I haven’t played better LPs than my Tokais and my handmade Japan Custom Shop signature ESPs 👌.

If you are right, then I have been playing that last arpeggio bit wrong for years. I play them as three note 16th note triplets like Randy plays in Mr Crowley, but you play them as four note 32nd notes or something. Sh!t. Back to the drawing board lol (listen to the record instead of going straight to tabs that are wrong as often as they are correct). P.S. Have you ever found a way to make PAF style pickups sound more like EMGs? Just boosting the signal does not seem to do it and it requires a lot more distortion to get the pinch harmonic to pop correctly, which makes the tone muddier and more squishy. I am thinking of buying an Afterburner or Blackouts preamp and putting it in a DIY pedal enclosure, along with a 25k pot for a tone control and a 9-18v input. Maybe that will work. I do not want to put EMGs in my guitar again. Too forgetful, so always end up with a flat battery, plus I like my passive pups for other stuff.
@EugeValovirta230V3 жыл бұрын
I don’t think there’s right or wrong ways to play anything; just different ways and we all play anyways with our own ways 😎. EMG 57/66 set is pretty much PAF on steroids. At least that’s how I feel about it. I have them on 3 or 4 my guitars 👌.
