You don't have to land the punch before the Subzero freeze. You can do the air combo and go straight into Subzero and its more consistent

Rain definitely one of them characters u need days of practice with, he seems simple but under pressure he’s hard to master… But I Appreciate this Video because u definitely made it worth trying making it look simple

Rain feels like MK1s Cetrion. The dude can zone, counter zone and is great up close. I guess that's why some people call him Wetrion haha 😅

Rain is a mix-up King you can basically cancel anything in his kit

His only downside is lack of good 50/50s. If you're playing against someone with good defense, aside from his overhead into grab, it's really hard to open them up

there 132 only 2 missed things about Rain but I don't know how to properly use them, while you can charge his water projectile and super kick, I think you can dash cancel out of them so there's that option if your opponent gets too close. The other thing is his water portal, you can summon 2 of them and there are 2 separate inputs that allows you to teleport between them (either the most recent one you made or the oldest one you made) and they're both needed to use his Down Forward 2 Meter to create a torrent between the two portals. It's like Raiden's little spark conductors in his MK X Master of Storms variation that can trap opponents. The problem is that they take time to set up where you want them and require 1 bar of meter to activate (the portals alone do nothing to the opponent unlike Raiden's little conductors which does unblockable chip damage on contact). Still Rain has a lot of options but this definitely helps me understand him better.

For the delayed wake up, if you dash and then set the whirlpool then go into the overhead you still get the launch, timing and armor break timing

There are tons of combos you can use while playing rain. And I mean tons, he's a very good character if he's mastered

i found scorpion is a pretty solid option for rain as well. it lets you combo off his armored move, gives you a ghetto mixup and can give you a meterless 35% combo off his overhead, and a metered 37-38% combo off his back 2 and forward 21 and 22

Imo sub zero is just more consistent. Not to mention that you can end the combo with set-up for another combo, and can easily get like 60-70% that way. Plus, the ice armor is an incredible tool overall. I've started with armor into water trap against many zoners, and they get caught by it very often
