This was the first song I learned and I still love to play it :-)

It was hard not adding a few extra embellishments when I played it on the pipes. This tune has definitely morphed into something else over the past 28 years!

You pass the Feinman test. It's a rare gift to explain so well.

Well done Matt, this is still one of my favorite slow airs to play.

A tune never to be messed with, it's melodic, moody, dangerous, it's a warning, as though the tune itself is counselling us. It has Bruce, the King of Scotland all over it, before the great battle of 1314. Scots Wha Hae personifies the sound of the pipes, every piper should play it with honour and respect. Regularly.

This is by far the best way for me to learn all tunes. Coming from a flute background, I can read sheet music very well, but if I start on the written music, it's oddly difficult for me to leave the sheet music behind no matter how many times I play a tune through.

Matt why do people often say its the first song they learn but it doesn't seem like a beginner song and you have it late in the playlist?
@MattWillisBagpiper2 ай бұрын
"Scots Wha Ha'e" was the first tuned in the old College of Piping green tutor book that was used for decades and decades, so it very much was the first tune generations of pipers used. I didn't include it in my Basics Series as I wasn't looking to just copy the old College of Piping system. It is still a great tune for the beginning player, but certainly not "required". I don't suspect I've ever played it at an event.
