As an 82 year old great grandmother I decided to teach my 6 and 7 year olds how to play solitaire with an actual deck of cards. I have been using the electronic version for many many years and for the life of me couldn’t remember how to do it with a deck. Loved your video. Now I’m ready to show this generation how to do it. Thanks!!!!!

@@Rulies Thanks so much!! I will take a look. I won my game of Solitaire based on your instructions!! That makes me a “Rock Star!” 😊. One question. When I am doing 1,2,3 looking for the face up card to play, if I only have 1, 2 and have to turn the deck over to get the third card , is this the way to do it? To get to the 3rd card , I can turn the deck over to get the 3rd card? For example, if I have 5 card left, this is 1, 2, 3 as the face up to match, then I have two cards plus the 4 rejected. Do I just turn over the deck that is left and choose the 3rd card from turning it over? Am I making a sense? Thanks for your excellent video!! I won !

I’ve known how to play Solitaire when I was 7-8 years old. I’ve always taken it for granted that everyone knows how to play, but I guess that isn’t necessarily the case, is it? I don’t know why I watched this. Maybe to experience a vicarious sense of curiosity at how to play that card game that used to come preinstalled on everyone’s computer?

I have a question… if a card could go both places, in the foundation pile, and the descending column,.. is there a rule for this,.. or just strategy?
@Rulies13 күн бұрын
That later. It’s a big part of the strategy! There’s even a few cases where you might want to pass on it and let the card stay in the draw pile a bit.

@KingaMuzik3 жыл бұрын
That was great. Your instructions, however, had ONE detail that differed from OTHER tutorials. Some tutorials state that the player can move cards from the TOP (the same suit piles) back down to the cards in then seven rows. Is that an OFFICIAL no-no?
@Callmegrandma3 жыл бұрын
I’ve wondered the same thing! I do play it that way if it works out I have no other option.
@femmina63 Жыл бұрын
I was thinking the same thing. When I played as a child, I never moved the card down from the foundation top row and one video said you could and he said no.
@BrigitteCoffman5 жыл бұрын
You can play cards in suit pile, if needed.
@Rulies5 жыл бұрын
Brigitte Coffman Wellllll.. that’s debatable. This comment deserves a good answer! (more below) ----------- Regarding Moving Cards Out of Foundation Piles --------- When making this video I went to the library! Most books, (such as Hoyle's Rules of Games, published in 1742, but modern books as well) explicitly say that you can’t. I think most people that play with physical decks of cards do not move cards out of the suit pile (aka foundation pile). BUT, in computerized versions, windows 95 solitaire lets you, and now many other online versions let you as well (though some deduct points). So I think many people picked that copied from that. I wonder if the windows version was intended or a programing bug? No way to know. I’m more of a traditionalist, so I prefer that you are not allowed to. But, in a way you are right: you "can" because I always think you should play how you prefer. Its just a game for fun! P.s. Klondike is a hard game. If you are looking for another way to make it easier, draw from the stock pile one at a time instead of three. I’ve seen that as well. Thanks for the comment Brigitte! Good food for thought.
@femmina63 Жыл бұрын
I watched several videos to see if you can move cards from the middle of the column. You said yes. No one has mentioned it in the other videos. The other thing was one video said you can move the card back from the foundation row on top. You said no and that it’s out of place so I’m wondering if there’s different sets of rules for different types of games.
@lauraleom7469 Жыл бұрын
My grandmother taught me how to play 45 yrs ago. She did not move cards from the middle of the column. Nor did she move cards out of the foundation piles once placed there. I'd say pick the rules you like and then stick to them.

Thank you! To answer your question: If you want to bring a card from the middle of a column to another column, you can… but all the cards under it in the column come along with it. Check the example at 03:08 . I hope that helps!

Thanks for the explanation. I’ve watched several other videos and couldn’t get my questions answered, but this one answered almost everything clearly! One question, though. When counting cards at the end for the score- am I counting the actual cards or points where A = 1, J = 11, Q= 12, K = 13?

Good! Teacher. I just had not played in awhile needed a refresh. But, I usually just hold cards in hand Klondike and look one at a time not 3 down. Is that ok?
@Rulies2 жыл бұрын
Hi! 3 down is the most common way to play and (for me) it is the most fun way because you have to be strategic about cycling through the deck. But… But if you like to play 1 down, then I say go for it! Having fun is the most important part. 😄 Some people that turn 1 at a time limit it to three passes through the deck to make it more challenging. Hope that helps!

I tried and enjoyed this classic card game for the first time today, and yours was the best and most entertaining tutorial on Solitaire I found on KZbin (and I watched a couple dozen). Good show! I appreciate the time and effort you put into this video. The overhead camera shots were done well, and the dark blue background made the cards stand out nicely. Your instructions were clear, and I liked the spots of humor. The only small things I could add would be: 1) Like "talon", I also think the word "tableau" is a cool term associated with this game, 2) I've heard that some limit the number of times one can go through the stock -- but why would that be better or more fun? and 3) As far as scoring, traditionally are the cards in your foundation piles at the end of the game worth a certain number of points each? Just wondering. Thx again!
@Rulies4 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much!! Comments like these keep me going... (more below)
@Rulies4 жыл бұрын
.. and to answer your questions: 1. Tableau! Cool! You taught me something, I like it. 2. Limiting passes makes the game harder.. in my opinion the game is hard enough. 3. Well, traditionally, the game isn’t scored. So if you want to be truly old school it’s just win or lose. Scoring came in with the computer era. I do like to use simplified scoring (the amount of cards) as a way to make the game more approachable... since most people will lose more than they win.
