Best lesson for this tune on the tube. If you don't get it after this, maybe kazoo is the instrument for you.

Down a green boreen came a sweet coleen, and she smiled as she passed me by...I learned this tune (on mandolin) from a book of songs where it said that the tune is an 'air' called 'My Love Nell'. Trouble is it is also 'Dives and Lazarus'' a song/tune that Vaughn Williams collected and wrote his variations on...and the song has been sung and recorded in both versions ...so it goes. Beautiful tune, and one that has got around a bit ! Well played and thankyou for reminding me of these old tunes.

Love the Ralph Vaughan Williams version!

@@LizFaiellaMusic The original tune is English 17th century - 'The Clean Contrary Way'. Difficult to track down a recording but the excellent Broadside Band can be heard playing it elsewhere on KZbin.
