I've never seen a tutorial that correlated to the way that I had to learn the game. I just started Stellaris yesterday and the first thing I did was screw up the game by selecting DirectX 11 from the setup menu. My cursor no longer correlated to what was on the screen and I had to uninstall the game. After I reinstalled it, DirectX 11 was still selected in the settings menu and my cursor did not correlate to what was on the screen. I finally realized that the cursor was about 2 inches to the right of what was actually being clicked on in the menus which at that point I was able to set the game back to DirectX 9 and continue to start the game.

Stellaris, like other games by Paradox are all about managing your resources in order to enter "virtuous circles" that enhance the income of resources that play to your species' strengths. Although the specifics of your civilization will push you towards a certain gameplay, there are some universals, for instance, try to always have the strongest fleet you can afford to maintain in order to not be pushed around; pay attention to the micro management of your planet in order to better take advantage of its resources and its size; last but definitely not least, try to keep your factions happy that you may build up your influence. Also, have fun; this game was made by hardcore sci fi fans FOR hardcore sci fi fans.

Among my first experiences in Stellaris as a new player was winning a war until the nation I'm fighting hired the ME to just destroy my empire, and the only way to get them to stop was to become their protectorate or whatever. What the hell? Did you really feel so desperate in the war that you had to get a ME to cuck me so you could "win" the war? Fucking bullshit! So I keep ME to keep the playing field fair. Hey, if you didn't want to go to war with me then you shouldn'dt have declared it.

Don't remove the hyperdrive from your military ships. You want those moving with your science ships and have them sitting on any choke points as your science ships move on to watch for contact with other empires. Preferably one system ahead of the choke, no need to scan it just in and out and leave the scout. Then you know which chokepoint you need to rush for.

People always tell me how do you play Stellaris, it's a really complicated strategy game. You're smart, of course you would like this kind of game. I tell them, no, you're thinking about it wrong. This is not Hearts of Iron IV where the goal is more or less to win WW2. I view Stellaris as a space opera generator/simulator where you occasionally have to do some strategy. I always recommend people play the UNE or the CM and tell them to RP it. Just do what you think those kinds of cultures would do and you'll be fine. That being said, the Clone Army origin is a real tax on the old noodle. I would consider it possibly the hardest origin to play.

There's very little reason to ever be in the system map view. You can do everything and faster from the galaxy map view. For instance where you were building mining stations individually in the system view, if you were in galaxy view you could have just selected the construction ship, then right-clicked the system and then click "build mining stations" and it will auto build ALL stations available in that system. Same with the science ship. Instead of clicking individual systems or creating a "route", just click its auto survey button and be done with it. It will go from system to system on its own and survey/explore/uncover everything available in each system with no more input needed from you.

If you send a science ship to an unexplored system with the order to survey it you stand a chance of losing that ship. It is far better to send a science ship to explore an unexplored system with the explore order because the ship will stop as soon as it enters the system before moving on and if there is danger in the system they have a much better chance of surviving it.

Thank you for making this, I just started the free week. I haven't played an X4 game in like 20 years so I'm sure things have moved on since Civ 2. Anyway, I think I'm going to get it before the sale ends, also that Star Trek mod looks good! Do you think you will make another tier list video with all the recent updates?

I honestly expected this video to simply say to pick catalytic converter on a machine empire and then accelerate the game speed.

This was an excellent intro. This game has been sitting in my queue being daunting since it came out. Imma skip the ship stripping down because it seems out of the spirit of my military dictatorship, but a really great overview otherwise!

Was hoping to learn about how to manage planets... What stuff to build, how it affects things, what specialists do and etc. By far the most confusing part for me.
