I never heard a guitar actually CRY... until I heard Gary Moore play "Still Got the Blues". And, Clapton was smart NOT TO attempt to play like Gary with his tribute to him. Many "guitarists" complained about Eric's soft edged style, but that was done to not try and compete with Gary.........................................
@sirwinston2368Ай бұрын
A late comment - one of the nicest things I like about your channel is that a lot of times you accommodate the intermediate/advanced guitar player by not giving finger-by-finger and fret-by-fret descriptions. Thank you!! Of course, if you are attempting to play Still Got the Blues, you are probably not a beginner guitar player. Thank you again Pilgrim. sw

Merci for this. I saw Gary once in Montreux, fantastic concert. I think I listened to Blues for Greeny about a gazillion times. Definitely not time wasted. Rick Beato had an interview with an old Geezer that had a fascinating interview and talked about music induced trances. It only happens after 10 minutes. Definitely not TikTok stuff.

Thanks mate, you inspired me. I’m practicing this song last solo part recently. I found it’s so challenge to do those quick notes picking since my finger is not that fast. After watching your video I know I need to make sure the first and last notes are correct, the middle notes just follow my feeling and do some pentatonic notes. Great video !

You must not have seen many guitarists trade licks then. I’d bet my life, that just BB King, had many, many, other guitar duel/call and response moments throughout his career, which were equal. It’s a cool moment of someone trying to play BB with BB, without overdoing it, but far from the greatest one, of its type, in the history of mankind.

the reason why they sound alike is the fact that their chord progression comes from an old classic jazz song called "autumn leaves". this chord pattern has leaked into many songs out there.

How can anyone claim their blues tune has been copied. The whole genre would be claiming left, right and centre that they’ve been ripped off!
@andre.19842 жыл бұрын
Yes, and it's a standard 2-5-1 chord progression, like in Autumn Leaves, so how can anyone claim authorship of anything? The melody follows naturally from the chords.
@AbbeyRoadkill12 жыл бұрын
Plagiarism has never been about chord progressions because chord progressions are not copyrightable. It's always been about melodies, and the melody in that section of the song is exactly the same- whether it was an intentional "ripoff" or not.
@andre.19842 жыл бұрын
@@AbbeyRoadkill1 Regardless of what the copyright protection laws say, some melodies follow logically from the chord progression. They are obvious because of the natural pull towards strong chord notes and towards resolution, and as such I think there should be no grounds for protection, in my opinion. At least in Europe, thinking about protecting a technical invention through a patent, you have to demonstrate that your idea is not trivial and obvious from the input that you use. Your intellectual input, your inventiveness, has to be a factor. I think the same reasoning should apply here.
@AbbeyRoadkill12 жыл бұрын
@@andre.1984 I think Gary Moore definitely improved this song in much the same way Led Zeppelin improved the songs that they "lifted." But I totally disagree that melodies are not unique creations. The number of chord progressions is finite- very large, but finite. Melodies are not finite, there's an endless number of them.
@andre.19842 жыл бұрын
@@AbbeyRoadkill1 That's not what I said, though. I specifically referred to melodies that follow naturally and logically from the key you're in, for the chord progression that you're playing. That's not the same as "any" chord progression. If you're a musician, you should understand this.

Btw both are very similar to the main theme of Europa. And that is based on an old stock lick. Anyone involved claiming ownership are stretching the truth.

IF Gary ripped of anyone, he ripped off himself, ie Parisienne Walkways, which is the same idea, sort of backwards and then The Loner, which is another take on the first two. Of course, the grand champion of ripping himself off is the great Master Ritchie, who has ripped himself off up to a dozen times, at least, or not. When you’re on a good thing,stick to it...
