I have played the Qf3 variation for a while. Nearly every well prepared opponent around my 2000 level goes for this Nc6 then queen swap. Explaining this middlegame is very helpful. This variation was told to me to be complete equalization by correspondence IM and probably why everyone goes for it. I will just practice the positions. I mainly play Vienna because if they go either Bc5 or Nc6 I play Bc4 and I get the trap with Qg4 on board constantly. I also get another trap in French where Qg4 is main move on board all the time. I think players around 2000 level really not that familiar with early Qg4 vs undefeated g pawn threats to see them intuitively

I have found the most common blunders I have made converting the positions after Qxf2 in practice are when black allows Qxg7 due to prematurely grabbing the rook allowing Qxg2 counterplay. When I look after computer always telling me I should just leave queen on g7 eyeing g2 and never allow Qxg2 and I am crushing but have lost a few games that way.

Thank you so much for this video! I especially appreciate the section about the Larsen/Rogers setup. I usually panic when faced with the bishop on c5 and knight on g4, but now I see you can just play Bg5

At 10:50, try d4 rather than d3. It’s close quarters and black gets developed but, if played accurately, White should be fine and be able to avoid the damaged pawns.

when you say, '...in similar structures', e.g. ~09:00, how do i know what positions fall into this group, other than this one? thanks! Really nice video. can't wait to try it out
@MoltonChess2 жыл бұрын
I think I was referring to positions where you have the pawn on e5 and Queen swinging to g3 to prevent Black's bishop from moving

Why we can't capture pawn dxe5 (2:35) what's wrong ?
@MoltonChess Жыл бұрын
You can but that allows a queen trade. Since you are attacking and so far ahead in development its more dangerous if you keep the queens on

Hi. Why don't you recommend the move 6.bxc3 in order to play with d4 in the line e4e5 Nc3Nf6 f4d5 fxe5Nxe4 Qf3Nxc3 ? I've won a couple of games with that line. By the way the dxc3 seems ok the way you explained it but i was so shocked it actually existed

Good lecture. The Qf3 variation seems the best. The engines seem to prefer black after Nf3.

hey, Molton at 13.06 what if after 10.Bf3 if black plays10...Qd7 then there are no double pawns on the queenside. what to do after that.Thanks, man making these lessons.
@MoltonChess3 жыл бұрын
True, perhaps go with the c4 idea there. If Bb4+ then Bd2 or moving the king looks double edged. Or Nb4 is met by Bd1 which should be good followed by 0-0. This might be better than the main line Ne2 which doesn't score well for White. Have to try it out and see. I will keep an eye out if I find any new ideas too.
