How To Play the Yu Yu Hakusho TCG

I remember playing this game with a few friends while I was in high school and had a few decks. I still have a small collection of my old cards, I just ordered 2 starter decks from Amazon and hope to teach my current friend group how to play! In your opinion, what sets are worth buying if I want to expand my collection a little, still have fun and powerful decks, but not have to worry about the power creep that busted the game? I think I have a few cards from Gateway and Exile. Mostly base set stuff

This game was so fun I won tournaments with a Team Rokuyakai deck many years ago

1. There is no deck size limit. One of the decks I play has 85+ cards in it. 2. They only cards that allow you to have more than 10 spirit are the Team Urameshi set up card called blade storm which gives you no max spirit. Or this card called serenity which is a promo that lets you have a max of 15 spirit after you play it. 3. I am not sure if this is what you mean but if you are talking about the inserts from DT that have the team bonus and effect on ii, no. Those are just inserts.

@druem exactly. this game was a victim of power creeping. dark tournament is my favorite, i will only play with that set.. I did get the gateway box but I will never mixed the different sets together. This game is wondrous, sadly the power creeping ruined it. I wish more people played in my area.

No, you do not have to have a team bonus if you do not like. You can have any combination of characters on your team. But the downside to that is you don't get a team bonus. They do make cards to help out decks with no team bonus though. Also, any amount of items or techniques can be attached to a character. There is no limit.

Hey! I have a question. When you played the kuabaura card, you don't have to discard 2 cards to play out on the feid do you?? Is it the only ability on him that you have to discard?

@VzVegeta whenever the card says "this characters attack gains ..." that means any attack used by that character would gain the 1000 boost. so that includes hieis attack and the technique and any other technique i would attach to hiei.

yes. you only have to discard the 2 cards to use the attack on the card. you never have to discard cards in order to play a card unless the card says so. the 2 cost is in order to use the attack on the card, not to play the actual card.

Ghost files, Dark tournament and gateway. it's a long shot but i figured this is a good place to post this. nice video btw. u forgot some key stuff like how to tell villains and heroes apart, and what a king card is/how to play with a king tho.

continued.... 1 damage= attack at least tied with opposing defense but not double the opposing defense. 2 damage= double the opposing characters defense or greater. A character does not have HP, they have up to 4 points of damage, once a character takes 4 points they are defeated. You can use cards that heal points of damage to keep your fighter in the match longer and hopefully win. hope this helps you understand.

I have several questions. Is there a deck limit, meaning what is the max amount of cards I can have on a deck? Is there a card that allows you to gain more than 10 spirit energy? For Team Bonuses, do I need to have the Team Bonus card to use the team effect? I just got into this TCG and bought 24 booster packs for $12 and most were from the first series while few were from Exile and Gateway. I appreciate your time for reading and commenting back.

@BrodzterGaming you tell the rarity by the letter next to the number of the card. for example if a card says C49, it means the rarity is common and the card is number 49 in the set. This is the rarity of cards in order from lowest to highest. Common, rare, Spirit Rare, Uber Rare, Ghost Rare. They are represented on the card by the first letter of the rarity (C for common, R for rare etc.) The only other rarities besides these are promos, tourny, and league cards. Hope this helped.

@Shredward009 gateway isnt such a bad set. it actually balanced the game out giving everyone set ups and made a lot of team actually playable. genkai and ichi were almost useless till gateway came out. i would be more than happy to play a game with you just using the first two sets though. let me know if you ever wanna play and ill make a deck.

@BrodzterGaming No. This game will never start again on a huge scale. The only people that still play are the people who played it back in the day and very few are still left. The sets that are over powered are anything past Gateway (3rd set) In Exile (the 4th set) they make the characters incredibly strong and pretty much any character from the previous sets are inferior. Then cards from Betrayal and Alliance are just so broken its crazy.

You do not have to do 2 points of damage at a time, You can do one one point of damage if you tie with the opposing characters defense, and if the attack isn't double that characters defense. Spirit energy is only lost when you use it to pay for events, techniques, and items (some attacks also require you to pay spirit energy) when you have 0 spirit energy you simply just cannot play anything that requires it, you do not lose the game.

I loved playing this game back in 2003-2004, but after dark tournament almost every card became OP. If anyone knows a way I can play this over the internet with out owning the cards I would love to know.

it is. in the later phases of the game, going first meant that you literally won cause there were ftk decks that existed

@@druem makes sense. I had all the starter decks way back when and donated them to my local rec center. I never learned the rules back then. Just bought 7 unopened starter decks from 2003 and gonna teach my friends.
