Once again, man, you blow me away... I've loved, and been haunted by this song, since the first time I heard it... I don't know if I can EVER play it THAT well, but by God's grace, he's given us a talent like YOU to have a chance to watch someone else do it, and teach us.... THANK YOU, from all of us, that feel the same way about the guitar, as you...

Right you are Andy, about it being 'the 70's, and it wasn't about perfection...' the 'vibe' on a special performance or take was MUCH more important to a great number of recording artists than having to (or WANTING to) go back and change, or 'punch in' any overdubs...back in the day when the band or artist would all be in the same room at the same time playing together on the recording...what a concept!...THAT'S the magic of the studio recording...at least, it used to be...it means something completely different in today's recording sessions, where anybody with a laptop and ProTools can record 'perfection' and professional-sounding results... Dude, another WONDERFUL instructional video...your playing, performance, and delivery are such a pleasure to follow...thank you.....

From all the thousands of songs I´ve heard during my life, 70´s songs are the most expressive and artistic. Something happened along the way after those years that transformed music into dollar bills... forgetting ... art. Thanks S&P for this lovely lesson.

You just learned to play it and when you played one note you heard that "there's something wrong with that"? It sounded great to me when you played it wrong. If I had a nickle for every time I played and I said "that sounded wrong" I could retire you. Great job from a song I remember as a kid. You're the best. Glad for all of us I can't retire you! But donations to that end are on their way. Thanks as always for sharing your expertise.

This is a real challenge for the untrained who have been playing for years and a perfect example of a tune that requires learning a variety of techniques. The wrist placement is key to the opening, but most of us never play in that position. The finger picking, while not overly complicated on its own, requires a lot of concentration as the licks move. Then we have a strange fingerings of common chords to accommodate descending bass lines that can't be done otherwise I'm going to have to play this 500 times just to get it to sound crappy. What a great job you did on this. In fact, all of your stuff is top notch. Wow.

I love your videos! A brief note on the History of this song...There was a Made-For-TV film entitled "She Lives" and it aired on ABC : Sept. 12, 1973. That's when the Nation had it's very first wide exposure to the song "Time In A Bottle". I was in High School at the time and that's where I first heard the song (as did my friends) and we were bowled over by it....an instant classic. I went right out and bought the LP "You Don't Mess Around With Jim" because it had yet to be released as a tie-in single (...it was released as a 45 in November of that year); and then, literally a week after "She Lives" aired, Jim and Maury perished in a plane crash...that was, and remains still, a huge tragedy....So, just before Jim and Maury died, this song was being played on the radio all over the Country....Here's an outtake from a documentary where Tommy West makes reference to this History of the song "Time In A Bottle"(and the ABC TV movie, though he doesn't name it as I've done here...): kzbin.info/www/bejne/hXvGp6l7nbaWpsk Hope this was of some interest to you! I know, Boomer History, right?

So I'm way behind where I should be at playing guitar. I figured since it's my 48 birthday I'll just start over with this song because it was recorded the year I was born. I'm going to practice for 3 to four hours a day. I'm going to mix in some Troy Stetina books so I can go over some basics again and work on my rhythm. Fall down seven times with guitar stand up eight times with guitar. Support Andy and buy a coffee mug, I did and my coffee tastes so much better now.

Once again...brilliant choice of song and also finding interesting background on the song and it's composers....bravo! I really enjoyed this one a lot...thank you for your dedication to giving attention to the details on technique and the multi-guitar sections and blending that makes these songs so beautiful and lasting in our memories. I remember when the song came out I did buy the single and practically wore out the record...playing over and over to get the fingerpicking and dual guitar parts just right...brings back really good memories too...and also the sadness I felt when this talented artist's career and life got tragically cut so short. The article you found was especially interesting from a guitarist POV... thank you for that too!

Ok, so, really well done mate! 'Been playing quite a while and was looking for a teacher for players with experience. So many sites try to be something for everybody; cant be done. Folks starting out need to get the basics before jumping into stronger tides. I got the right hand for this and needed a good view of the left. Taking Maury Mulheisen's on is just the best. A brilliant lesson as usual, especially as both guitar parts are covered. I would say however it makes no sense to use your thumb on the G string on the verse I would just keep using your index (pointer/first) finger on the G string as it is for the rest of the song. This also helps with the 'extra note'
