marty and justin dont know how to tune a guitar properly and they push too hard on the cords which bends the neck that also throws an acoustic guitar out of tune so easily.I also change my strings every week.I play lots and wipe ur strings off with a cheese cloth so the oil and bits of skin wont wrought the strings.

Great lesson. I find the chorus bit going from D to G the hardest as the right hand goes all over the place! I've played (badly) for years doing just simple pop stuff, but I found this Travis picking concept really unnatural and difficult to pick up cos I ignored it for years. But Im getting there very gradually thanks to your detailed and accurate lessons. My advice to beginner guitarists is definitely best to try learn travis picking as early as possible once you've got the basic open chords!

Lots of great advice in this video. ...One thing i think its important for people to understand is that every once in a while every once in a while it IS ok to practice faster than what you can play it perfectly. This can be a VERY effective tool for building speed, and allow you to advance a little faster....a descent ratio might be - if youve practiced the song perfectly 20 times, try it a little faster than your "perfect speed" once.....but yes 999 times out of 1000 i would give the same advice as whats given here...dont play it any faster than you can play it perfect...its the safe bet to steady improvement.

+Jim Sonic Hey Jim, that is an excellent point. I actually mention this exact thing in one of my other videos. I can't remember which one, but it's a guitar solo video, maybe Anyway You Want it?? I didn't mention it here because I think a lot of folks who are watching this vid are most likely advanced beginner to intermediate players...but it's always good to push yourself a bit here and there. Hello, I've watched a bunch of videos on playing "dust in the wind" and yours is the BEST.. Home guys move along to slow and some to fast, your pace is just right... I am picking it like a breeze... Nice job.. I want to really get another song down pat, Don't think twice it's alright" is the title, I think it was written by Bob Dylan but best covered by Peter Paul and Mary... The finger pattern seems to be a little different and it's tough to change patterns. Maybe you could teach that song also ?? Thanks and keep up the good teaching.

Amazing tutorials. I had a question that I am hoping some folks on here can answer. Classically I will play using my fingers on strings 1-3, and thumb covering the base strings 4-6. What I am finding is that on the Dm7 chord playing it this way (41,3,2,4,1,3,2) my hand feels 'crowded' when playing the Dm7 chord. When I play an Am (with similar finger picking of 51,3,2,5,1,3,2) it seems fine and I don't feel 'crowded' or slow. I realize that I could play it with the finger picking from the regular C chord in the beginning, but I am trying not to limit myself to a technique that's easier so that I grow as a guitarist. The reason I like using PIMA fingerstyle is when I play with a flat pick and fingers (hybrid) it transitions better than playing without my ringer finger. Maybe I am being pedantic and silly but looking for help just the same. Thanks!

i had similar issues, honestly just learn to adapt to different play styles. i found knowing how to incorporate my pinky and ring fingers helps a lot with every type of fingerstyle song no matter what technique is used
