Really appreciate you uploading this for free. I played jazz guitar for many years, recorded albums, traveled... then I had kids and hadn't played for a decade. I've started playing again, and all I want to learn is Christmas songs to play for my family at Christmas, so these videos have been super helpful, and saved me a ton of time.

Thanks @SquirrilahFish. I put a huge amount of time and effort into making these videos. I like to keep them free for those that can't afford it, but if you can, please support what I do. Cheers, Andy www.shutupandplay.ca/donate.html

Hi! In USSR my mam play me this on piano. The song was named (direct translation): "And my woodchunck with me". In Russian: "И мой сурок со мною". The fact is that this music was written by Beethoven(in 1790) for Goethe's lyrics (in 1773).

Sorry, bud, and I know I’ll probably regret responding to your trollery, but Greensleeves was written in Tudor England- 1580 something-ish. Henry the 8th, who apparently was a pretty good musician and an accomplished composer in between lopping off spousal heads, has sometimes been credited with writing it, although more recently I think it’s mostly regarded as one of those trad/anon tunes.

Lol...That was the first song I learned play. It was for my 6th grade Christmas program. I'm certain it sounded nothing like this and I made a mistake that still bugs me. I knew it as Greensleaves. The only other Xmas song I like is "Mary did you know" & I'm missing something. I'd like your take on it if time permits. Thanks (Not That D.G)
@jimtalltheislandbrothers66393 жыл бұрын
I also know it as Greensleeves
@paulmuaddib13 жыл бұрын
Greensleeves is the title I have on sheet music and is a traditional melody that goes way way back. According to a music historian talk that I once listened to, the melody goes back to a time when a visit to a prostitute might have included listening to her music or poetry. And if that visit took place on a green field then one might depart with green-stained coat sleeves. If true, incredibly ironic and strange that the melody was adopted as a Christmas hymn.
