I'm so glad to see a tutorial on YL! Just want to mention about fair and bair. You can actually use their first hitbox, fast fall, and then combo into basically anything. In fact, nair can do that too. I've been doing this consistently against human opponents. Also, pivot grabs can catch aggressive players off-guard.

A trick I found is that if you short hop and throw a bomb down on them you can cross them up with 1st hit of bair which can true combo into up smash. Pretty sure it’s a true combo. Similar to how he explained the z drop.

I've noticed he doesn't have to nail the timing when he does it so the item drops. Most cases in Smash 4 I end up using my clawshot mid air while Z dropping.

Whats the best way to get short hop every time? I feel like even if i press it quick I still cant get it at an 80% consistency in live fights. I feel like I have to quickly slide my finger off the edge of my jump button to get short hops consistently. Do you press jump and attack at the same time to get your short jump tilts?

Just go into training mode and practice tapping your jump button to short hop. Once you can control your jump consistently start practicing short hoping side to side out of walking and out of dashing. When you no longer have to consciously mind your jump input you won't have any problems.

I'm a Melee Link player and Ultimate YL is basically Melee Link on steroids. Amazing zoner with trouble finishing off opponents is how I'd describe both though I am glad to see Young Link address many of the issues plaguing the old Link. He looks awesome to a Melee Link veteran like me! Great vid

First hit fair is a bit better than what ZeRo says in this guide. Fair1 sends opponents slightly downwards, allowing for drag down follow ups. At high percents, it’ll pop characters up a little and make conversions WAY easier. There is: Fair1 > jab (the easiest conversion) Fair1 > Nair (kills at obscenely high percents, pretty safe if they buffered shield) Fair1 > Dtilt > UpB, or any aerial. Dair and Uair are tough depending on DI. Fair1 > Fair at very high percents Fair 1 > Dtilt > Fair > Fair can also work depending on DI reaction, character weight, and percent. It’ll work on Roy at 0%, but no further, but on heavies (Bowser especially) it’s a tad easier. Do not rely on getting this consistently.

Zero, I played Young link in Melee and they kept the mechanic where if you drop the bome while jumping through a platform, it lands on the platform without exploding. Great for traps. You can do a similar think on the ledge, pull out a bomb, and z drop RIGHT as you are about to land, and it will stay there without exploding.
