you could use fusso 99 after this step.. might want to do just a quick wipe down with IPA and water to get rid of the polishing oils on the surface..

I've got the car. I've got the DAS6 Pro. I've got the toothbrush :) I've finally found the video to refer to any time I'm feeling unsure. I'm loving my DAS6, safe and fun to use, no polish sling either with the Scholl S17 and S40 combo that came with it, and now my car looks something else. My co-workers think it's been freshly resprayed now. Great video, thanks for the advice. In case you're interested, I used Britemax Vantage for protection to my lovely car's paint.

The Maguires ultimate compound is good for beginners due to it being really luby and doesn’t require any lubricants to cover big areas

Thank you. I foolishly took my shiny 2015 Hilux down some narrow green lanes and limped back with almost every panel covered in tiny scratches from brambles, bushes and branches. After watching this channel for some time I bought this exact DA Polisher (V2), followed your instructions and now the truck looks like it just rolled out the showroom. Cheapest quote to have it done by a pro was £450. Thanks again - fantastic content 🙉👊🏻

Well done Charlie 👍. I felt the same and was worried that I hope I don't damage the paint but the paintwork came out like new. I'd recommend protecting the paint with ceramic coatings or even PPF as its a matter of time before you'd get scratches coming back. I'm sadly seeing holograms come back on the doors after a year since I machine polished my car 😭
@Charlie-gx9lm
@Charlie-gx9lm 5 жыл бұрын
The holograms and buffer trails are what put me off doing it at first but you won’t get that with a da, I can’t really afford to wrap my whole car in ppf, and personally I’m happy to throw a glaze and wax over my car every month or so rather than ceramic coating it Swirls are inevitable on any car, black is just more noticeable 🤷‍♂️😂
@zaink7037
@zaink7037 5 жыл бұрын
@@Charlie-gx9lm the holograms I got due to washing the car after these many months after machine polishing it. I be so careful washing but sadly my car's paint is soft that's its easy to scratch when contact washing. Ceramic coating are harder I believe than a normal wax so thought might be better to put that on fresh paint.
@Charlie-gx9lm
@Charlie-gx9lm 5 жыл бұрын
Ah right I see, it’s a vicious circle though. I just prefer the way a wax looks Nice thing about glazes is that you can use them as many times as you want and it won’t remove paint Waxes tend to fill paint anyway so could make your life easier, ceramic coatings can/will swirl up too 👎
@zaink7037
@zaink7037 5 жыл бұрын
@@Charlie-gx9lm never tried ceramic coating but yeah that's the good thing with waxes they fill up the scratches momentarily. My uncle has a GTR which has had PPF applied by the previous owner. It works well and has a good thickness however from looking at the bonnet I can see water spots. The spots go away when the bonnet is hot but comes back. Gave it a polish but its still there. I have a feeling the spots are underneath the film so improper application of the PPF

Thank you, thank you, thank you! I've been saying for a long time now that you do NOT need heavy downward pressure on these machines. I don't know who ever came up with that, or how, but it's a myth - at least when it comes to foam pads. I use a little pressure with microfiber. Also, that green Hex Logic pad is my go to for cutting. Give me some Meguiar's Ultimate Compound, or M100, and I can handle many situations in a nice amount of time. When I do a "one step" I use M86 on a blue Hex Logic, or M205 on the green. But thanks for saying that we don't need all that pressure. People could get around that vehicle so much faster if they just let that pad get spinning.

cheers Dan.. honestly though mate you need to try scholl or koch compounds or polishes.. The meguiars range are dated and the lubrication is less effective.. (yes it still works and you can get great results). but the window in which the product is effective and what happens when you work beyond that window, is a problem which scholl and koch have solved... Give S20 black a whirl as a one step.

I'd have liked some 'before' pics to see the efficacy of the polish over the short polishing time. I suspect the paintwork didn't really need an all in one product, a dedicated finishing polish would have left a finer finish (obviously!). All in one is a good solution for a quick job on older more worn looking paintwork. Good video again.....
@ForensicDetailing
@ForensicDetailing 8 жыл бұрын
the paintwork was actually perfect for a 1stage.. light damage.. but a cheap run around car that you really dont want to be spending days on... You will also struggle to tell the difference that a dedicated finishing polish leaves, to the finish that this one stage leaves... I suspect S20 is built from finishing polish grade abrasives bonded together to provide a good initial cut level... but the great thing is the way it finishes down. Why would you specially recomend an AIO for it? Those products contain resins mixed in with the abrasives.. When we finished out sets we were damage free so why cover the car in disolved resin?

ive not used the meguiars polisher Jp sorry I think they are all more or less the same sort of thing chinese made. If your just looking to polish a car at home the 8ml will be fine.. but if your doing more polishing the extra cut of the 15 ml does come in handy. but the flip size is the 15ml cant support smaller plates cheers buddy.

@ForensicDetailing
@ForensicDetailing 8 жыл бұрын
dont be to scared of overworking it on a single pass.. because the level of abrasion reduces as you work the product.. So it starts off agressive and then after 1 minute of working breaks down to a finishing polish.. The finishing polish is really mild.... So you can happily work it as long as you like... but I think 4-5 mins is way long enough...

Talk about a coincidence! I've just bought a DA6 pro that arrived today from CYC after my out of warranty but used only twice Meguiars G220v packed in so I found this really useful. As I already have some stuff I would like your comments on their suitability if you wouldn't mind? My pads are 7" and 4" Megs Black buffing, yellow polishing and the brownish red cutting ones so I'd like to use these if I could. I have some Farecla Professional paint restorer and their Professional scratch remover as well as some Sonax perfect finish and Megs ultimate compound. I have 2 jobs to do. Firstly I would like to polish my 3 1/2 year old Skoda Ocvtavia Race blue metalic vRS which although I've cleaned it using the 2BM and dried it with a woolly mamouth MF drying towel it's got some fine scratches on it now. After that I've got my wife's new car to do when that arrives next week. It's a alpine white (non-metalic) BMW. So any tips or pointers would be great. When I did the vRS 3 years ago with the help of a mate he did the same horizontal then vertical passes route as you did but did 3 in total and moved the G220 much faster across the paint work at the same sort of speed you did when spreading the Scholl. He used the large yellow megs pads and Sonax PF IIRC. If it helps the VRS gets a twice yearly detox - SF, 2BM wash, detar, fall out remover, clay mit, wash and IPA wipe with rinses between etc before I apply my LSP P.S. really liked the vids on the MF buffing towels- The rag masters look the business so I'll be getting a pack of 5 of those. Cheers Ade

+adrianbarrie13 hey Ade, so what I would say is.. The main "cool" things in this video.. The things that make following the method a good idea are... The scholl S20 black product (it really is magical)... Being 1 stage you save money on compound/polish etc, you save on pads, you save massivly on time... But your results will be top draw... If your starting out doing a 2 stage.. Its very hard to really have the time to work the products 2 times (compound and polish) and other products have much shorter working windows you just cant get your work done in 1 set... So one of 2 things tends to happen.. You spend about 3-4 days hell bent on working your compound properly and then working your polish properly and end up doing like 2 sets of compounding and 1-2 polish etc.. And you get very good results but it takes days and days... OR what happens most time is you do a great job on the bonnet and then rush the rest and get poor results in 1 day... This method will give you great results in 1 day. So I would say invest in the S20 black and the green pads and the little inspection torch (get the ragmaster towels cool). And follow this method.. I have never used the farecla system... Im sure it can give good results but what Im not so sure on its how well its lubricated and if theres much technoology beyond it just being abrasives and lubricants mixed in. No matter what product I find slow arm movement is one of the most important things for getting real crisp results... Ive done a machine polishing with the flex 3401 video.. you could stick with your farcla stuff and use your megs cutting pad with the compound and the polishing product with the polishing pad etc... And do a 2stage similar to the method their (that car had some serious scratches all over it though) But I would say if your new to this and you want great results... follow the method in this vid. really appreciate you watching ade and feeding back and best of luck with the VRS work... lemme know how it goes mate

+Forensic Detailing Channel Cheers FDC. I already have a couple of those torches but never used them for detail work so you learn something every day! All 3 of the polishes I've mentioned above have diminishing abrasives in them and are designed as 1 step polishes, but I don't know how they retain their workability compared to the Scholl stuff you recommend. It's all a bit of a dark art isn't it? I'll watch your Flex 3401 video and go from there.....hopefully! All the best Ade

so S20 is more of a true single stage polish vert high cut but rapid breakdown to a very high level of finish. S20 can sometimes be a bit harder to buff. F6 is more a traditional mid range low cut higher gloss abrasive. in simple terms both will do the job but if you only want one main product to machine polish you car. Then its S20 mate.

Just what I've been looking for 👍 a proper video with precise & clear methods to achieve great results from a DA with 1 correction use, just out of interest what size pad did you start with? (5 inch) & when & why would you use the 3.5-4 inch pad! Is that for smaller harder to reach paintwork areas. Sorry I'm a DA novice 👻 & looking to get my first DA from CYC, definitely the one that your using Thanks 👍

Hi what method would you employ to remove TARDIS stains from black gloss painted pillars?, Many Thanks.....for all the great videos and pointing us in the right direction for best value when it comes to supplies & equipment.
@ForensicDetailing
@ForensicDetailing 8 жыл бұрын
hey scott.. color is typically irrelevent with most modern cars with clearcoat. because all the defects are in fact in the clearcoat (unless this is single stage paint?)... The black color underneath will just help to show certain defects more clearly but others less clearly (for example shows scratches clearly because the cut or compressed clearcoat turns whiter.. But hides dark/grey spots of fallout more then say white paint would)... but essentially the color under the clearcoat doesnt really matter. Tardis is a mineral spirit I believe.. smell like its almost all mineral spirit.. So if its left staining I suspect thats actually going to be damage to the clearcoat and its going to need an abrasive to remove it or literally cut away the damage... Its hard to say without seeing it.. but perhaps try using a light polish by hand first to remove the staining...

I've found you're one of the few professionals that really spend time with the polisher. 80% of the polishing videos I've seen on KZbin, the guys are going 2 or 3 times faster across the clearcoat. I've even seen so-called professionals recommend only 2 passes, applying moderate to heavy pressure, and taking less than a minute to fully do a section. I'm not saying those guys aren't getting good results, and I'm a newby still learning, but I can tell who is really doing the best work and who isn't. One quick question, but you seem to speed up a little on the last pass on some of your videos. Is this like an additional pass after the main ones to bring out the finish, or just part of the main passes to speed up a bit at the end? Also, would you recommend a last faster pass more for an all in one compound and polish than purely a compound only product. I've recently bought the TW One & Done, so was wondering how to get the best results.

Just wanted to firstly thank you. I followed this guide and the how to apply ceramic coating guide over the bank holiday. I now have a very shiny car with a ceramic coating. My question is, what is a safe shampoo to wash the car with now I have the quartz ceramic coating?. I was looking at either the bilt hamber concentrate or carpros reset.
@ForensicDetailing

go with Reset or Gyeon Peter.. It wont have any negative effect if you just use any car wash shampoo really... but take the plunge with one of the ones developed for use with ceramics. I honestly dont know if they maintain the coating better or work better. I think it will literally be impossible to tell.

Great information for me here, so much good stuff- afterwards I went and bought the DAS 6 Pro , now that I know what I'm doing. Still some questions though please, I realise this is one stage polish I'm okay with that, can I provide further protection to my new car by applying some of my left over bottle of Blackfire Wet Diamond. Cutting correction, polish then protection. Yes? If so which pad do I use with the Wet Diamond please?
@ForensicDetailing
@ForensicDetailing 5 жыл бұрын
Hey Mike, So a cutting pad like Yellow HEx or Orange HEx with a heavier compound. with single stage typically a mid range pad thats not too harsh like the green or white. The a finishing polish would be the white or blue. And then you have ultra soft fine pads for appying sealants, like the chemical guys black pad. So black would be cool with the white diamind.. although you could really use any pad thats softish.

Firstly, have a plan for washing the car once I drive it home the 400 miles from S. I'm thinking next about decontamination stage 2 though, will I be okay just with going over each panel carefully with Bilt Hammer Korrosol first and then going for it as you show in the tutorial?

@ForensicDetailing

cheers J . the das 6 pro is still the most popular starting out tool... the pro plus is slightly newer to the scene... and also a fair bit more expensive than the das6 pro... the das6 pro is still a very capable tool and if you are not doing a lot of polishing is probably the best solution.. You can do everything with the das 6 pro... Its very safe and less agressive and requires you to use it with some "attention" to get results... building up a good method of working with this tool will be a good foundation to moving on to other tools later on...

hi - really informative video - thanks. I will be using S20 on black BMW paint which is mostly in very good condition - just some light swirling. It does however have a small amount of hologramming (at least thats what I think it is) after BMW carried out a repair. Will the S20 remove that? Also - do I need to use a finishing polish (was thinking S40 or SRP) - i assume not as S20 is a single stage polish? Many thanks

P.S. sorry for my grammar,english is not my native language.
@ForensicDetailing
@ForensicDetailing 7 жыл бұрын
it depends on the durability of the product you use.. typically a sealant would look to deliver around 6 months durability. waxes perhaps closer to 2-5 months. If you put a ceramic coating on it you could apply a wax use the top, but you are better off using the ceramic water based top coats like carpro reload or ctechniq 2 or gyeon cure perhaps.. but yes you can apply a wax on a ceramic.

Great video. About the little torch, how many lumen would you recommend? Jaycar in Australia sells a range of the CREE torchlights with different lumen.
@ForensicDetailing
@ForensicDetailing 7 жыл бұрын
hey there there is no set lumens level for perfection. the type of light and fan out and the brightness can all play factors in whats the most appropriate. I still prefer 400w halogens workshop light for showing swirls to LED workshop light but Ive only done one very basic comparison with 2 cheapo products. For and inspection torch you should have a look at the "how to make a sun gun" video on the channel. but if you want to just buy a little bright LED they can come in usefull.. the one I use cost about 1 pound and I find it equally as usefull than a more powerfull LED one I had that cost 60 pounds. my cheapo one is the q5 crossfire with a CREE LED. but if you want to spend a bit more just up the lumens. its not all about brigtness though. all these torches and stuff are usefull when you are working inside.. if you dont have a garage and have to inspect in outside light it kills the effectiveness of the torches..

Hi Mate, Great video and advice. Im looking to start machine polishing as a complete novice. I have a 1 year VW that Im just looking to keep on top of. Would this still apply or is would this be a technique for more older cars that need more attention. Thanks in advance.
@ForensicDetailing
@ForensicDetailing 8 жыл бұрын
hey andy.. its a really intelligent question.. because one of the hardest things to know when starting is what does my car actually need doing to it.. And this is typically referred to as the "inspection".. Give your car a damn good safe clean... And inspect your paintwork for contamination first to see if it needs a decom.. then in good light (sunlight can be cool to use for inspections if you dont have a garage and a nice strong inspection torch) really examine you paint for swirl marks on the bits in direct sunlight and maybe even move the car around so you can inspect all the panels with the right light.. Try and build a picture of the condition of the painwork all around the car... Your looking to determine what time of work the car needs from a polishing perspective.. If you dont have much in the way of damage to "correct" or cut away.. Then following the method in this video but replacing the S20 with a finishing polish like S40 will serve you well... However if you have a lot of swirl damage and need to do a fair amount of correction then a 2stage method using S3 gold XXL and S40 on appropriate cutting and finishing pads will serve you well... So its all about inspecting the paintwork in the right light and then taking the most efficient course of action...

Hi @Forensic Detailing Channel I am interested in the Das6 pro. Bit nervous about polishing. But would like to speed up the wax and buff process as I usually do it by hand. I use AutoGlym HD wax. My question is could you recommend the best items to Wax and buff not polish. Thank you and I enjoy your in detail videos.
@ForensicDetailing
@ForensicDetailing 4 жыл бұрын
important to understand the different between a wax and a polish. USe an abrasive polish to maximise the physical condition of the paintwork and gloss up the paintwork. Once done remove the polish residue, degrease. Then apply a protection product. EG a wax to seal in the finish and repeal dirt and contamintation and water etc.. So you have HD wax. dont buy any other wax. Just buy a cheap bottle of autoglym super resin polish and buff that by hand to prep the surface. If you want to get into machine polishing then buy the Koch abrasives and a DA8 polisher from in2detailing and watch my 40 minute long video on machine polishing on the channel.
