@@gilbertrodriguez2595 It went well. I had to play around with different pads but eventually found I liked using the microfiber cap for my polisher. Also changing them out to a clean one seemed to make sense. I bought a bunch. I'm 68 and only polish once a year so I'm coming up to my next try. I'm thinking of buying a smaller one to get into smaller areas. At a certain point I have to remember that my car is a 2014 Mazda5, but its a good looking 2014 Mazda5. But thanks for your video, I learned a lot and got over my fear of using one.

There’s a tool like a brush that you use between area. That way your not working with excess build up from products or what’s coming off the area you work on. I do this every panel.

For us beginners. Jeez I almost feel like I got something against us newbies.. but I know your here to help.. so... At harbor freight they have a Bauer 6 in dual action 6speed deal. $109. This machine u have here is from Gyros and vmcan be found at Advance auto parts. $80. Your only really losing 1340 orbits per min on the machines. However u also have more vibrations on the Gyros one.. oh and the harbor freight DA is compared to the $300 Rupes brand.

I have been using my da orbital to fast not stalling or pressure but just to fast , great video learnt a lot , still don’t understand how to shine the wax coat after polishing , not sure if to use a waffle pad or do by hand , also is the last step with wax coating a slow speed as in 3 or 4 or a faster speed , many thanks from Australia cheers

How do you know how many passes to do? Do you work it in until it's gone or just 2 passes for example and then buff out?

Do test area, start with 1 or 2 passes. Clean with IPA wash and check results. If you think you need to add another pass or two, do so and repeat above. Once you determine the number of passes, move onto the next area and test that. Wipe with IPA and assess. Once you dial in the passes you need, proceed to the other sections. This can be applied for Wet-Sanding, Compounding and Polishing. Test, test & test.

Only difference I can think of, as an amateur myself, is that moving fast and doing more passes would create less heat. I think sometimes for hard euro paints, a little bit of heat can help. Alternatively, I've seen Dallas say that you can use less polish, like 2 dots instead of 3 to achieve more heat.

Usually by color. Yellow is compound, orange is polish, black is finishing with wax. No expert, that was what the pads in my DO polisher instruction manual stated.

Hey man! For more heavy correction, I would sit somewhere around 3, the idea is to keep the polish from heating up too much because after it hits a certain temp. it doesnt work to its max ability. With finishing and gloss enhancement I might kick it up a notch to 4.5

I think a good rule of thumb is 4 pads, but that is just an average for me. I would say to maintain them just making sure you are washing them after every job you do, not literally after everytime you put it down, but when the entire job is done, making sure that you are washing the polish out and letting them dry... sometimes people overthink the pad washing thing

Rotary needs a lot of experience to use it, and it.contains a lot.of dangers. If you are a bigginer a da i all you need. You are not trying to have show room resulta in a 2008 car, but you CAN have great reaults.

Rotary definitely would be ideal just because of how much correcting you can do, and heavy correcting at that, and it would let you be a little less patient because things move faster! And it would be a good project to learn how to use one!

Use the flex 3401, it's a forced rotation da. Gets the job done much quicker but just as safe as a regular da polisher. Professional German tool.

Themachine size, more power, less or no vibration and noise. One is a random orbital, the other is a dual action isolating type polisher.

remus421 yes, some people may have an issue with the types or names being used, perhaps random orbital is a different way of describing a DA ( I'm not a polisher gut knowledge expert) the bottom line is both isolate or do not use force rotation. I mentioned more power with a longer throw in mind, several Bigfoot models, 3 levels of higher power machines than the griots.

Which Griot's and which Rupes? They both offer models in 21mm stroke, 15mm stroke, as well as others. Rupes also offers a forced rotation machine. But bottom line, it really comes down to user preferences (or cost!). Both brands are good

I would say the simplest way to say it is that the rupes is going to deliver FAR more power, FAR more throw, and FAR less vibrations.... it makes for way more correcting capabilities

Hi Luke - Feel free to correct me on this... Yestallbobo, I think you will find that this is because; 1. Product, Use a good quality 'single step' compound (good for beginners). 2. Don't rush, be patient and let the compound and machine have time to do the work. 3. Keep your pad clean. Blow or brush the pad clean regularly. (I sometimes have my vacuum handy to clean my pad without messing up the clients garage.) I find sometimes, especially on black cars, I'll check my work and go over any little buffer trails I might have left behind with a smooth 'finishing' polish instead of compound. I'm still not the best at this (hence watching the video) but practice and you'll get there 👍 Thanks again Luke

I actually did move this speed (shown in Luke’s vid) as I watched hours of Correction vids before buying. @@yestallbobo HD Speed (now 3D Speed) is a good quality product. There are so many variables to consider. But if you are seeing them on various types of cars, it could very well be technique. No offense. It really is hard to pinpoint without doing a test spot. Curious, what LC pads are u using?

BB Detailing it was the LC orange cutting pads on a MaxShine M15 polisher. Also it was on a heavily oxidized black Honda that the Correction was done on. Swapped between 3pads for the entire car and used a microfiber cloth to wipe all the gunk out in between. Wash and clayed beforehand; car wasn’t wax for atleast 6years, performed everything in the shade (hope all this gives an idea)

Hey, both guys have given GREAT advice... the only thing I would add is this: what you may be seeing is not buffer tracts, but swirl marks that are now more pronounced because they are sitting on a shiny, lustrous background, because the paint is now popping thanks to the polishing and the HD speed, but because HD speed is a more light cutting polish, its not fixing all of the swirls, so when you are doing there are still some there, and now you can REALLY see them. I cannot say if this is what is happening for sure, but it definitely might be

Some great information and tips here. Would have saved me a whole lot of time and trouble had I watched this ten years ago as a beginner! 👍👌✌ I'll mention something I see a lot, and was guilty of myself, is working too large of a section. It can cause the compound to dry out before it's worked completely, or an arm speed that is too fast trying to manage it. Not efficient either way. 18"x18" should be the maximum section size for beginners, in my experience anyway. Residue control is also huge! You need to use the proper amount of product and blow out and/or brush your pads frequently between sections. It will perform better, with less dust and sling, and yield better results. Your pads will also last much longer. Claying before you polish helps a lot as well. Too much downward pressure will also destroy pads in a hurry. Finally, I must say, back when I first started out, I absolutely burned the hell out of an edge on a Ford F150 using only a Harbor Freight DA, M105 and a common orange cutting pad. Can't get more entry level than that. Very important to always work mindfully on edges when compounding, regardless of equipment configuration..

Hey Luke, love your channel definitely one of the best for car detailing. I took delivery recently of a mk7 golf R, I understand it has hard paint to correct. I have a shine mate da 5" backing plate with hdo pads and microfiber hdo also a shine mate 3.5" backing plate with the same. As far as compounds I went with TLC (the last Cut). In your professional opinion will this work well. Going to coat it with kamikaze ism also do the proper decon you talk about. I'm only a driveway enthusiast but have done now 5 cars for friends and family and have turned out magic. Wash, decon, da stage and glass coat can do in around 20 hours. What is the best way to clean the rubbers on the outside around the doors? Always have a problem with that? Thanks Luke. Love from Gold Coast Australia 👍

With runners on the exterior, degreaser diluted 5:1 would be my go to, if that doesn’t work it is difficult to say because there are so many different scenarios and TYPES of rubber so it is difficult for me to answer 😬😬 feel free to email me! How come you didn’t use the Maxshine? I was going to buy the Griots, now looking at Maxshine instead based on your last review, but now wondering whether Griots is the way to go since you are using it for your demonstration (and you didn’t put it as a link to the products you use). Have you changed your mind about the Maxshine being the best DA polisher for a beginner (at this price point)?

The Griot's 6" is good. Get different backing plates (3" and 5") and matching pads, and you can do plenty

Almost sounds like a DREMEL TOOL ,it runs on RPMS with little TORQUE .

not maintained right. try chemicals guys microfiber and pad cleaner and wash to put it thru the washing machine.

@@bbdetailing9123 Lake Country Hydrotech foam pads. Blue, orange and red. 3 and 5 inch.

@@owensteele1274 Those are good pads. Their earlier batches have been dubbed Hydroshreds. Yup, cuz they would shred apart. At least under rotary power. Yours might be getting too much heat.
