It’s very common for all RV’s paint, fiberglass or the clear coat to get dull or have a “cloudy” look to them over time. RV's sit in the sun constantly, & the UV rays from the sun can really take it’s toll on any type of RV. If you take the steps that I show you in how we wash and detail our motorhome-in addition to doing periodical polishing & protection with RejeX-your RV, can always look practically new again.
Using the right equipment, materials & a little patience, any RVer can do this DIY job and save BIG MONEY by not out sourcing it to RV detailing person or company.
We polish our motorhome twice a year before applying RejeX as our final coat instead of using wax. But we have one area on our motorhome that I need to polish a little more each year. thx Don, No. The lower section of my RV where the basement doors are has a different finish and really keeps a nice finish by just washing and applying RejeX. Your RV may have a different finish than mine does down there. So if you have a problem with that area-then yes-same technique. Thank you for your comments and tips for using rejex. We have a 2019 Winnebago mini with red gel coat. It was getting cloudy, looked sorta pink, burnt orange on one side that gets full sun. I used a light to medium meguires compound to remove oxidation or cloudiness. I applied rejex as last step. Unbelievable difference. It is now as colorful and has a depth of shine I did not believe possible. I had always kept it waxed and clean but it slowly clouded over time. Thank you for all your videos and how to instructions. Very addictive channel.

Detailer’s helper belts are great when doing large vehicles. Used the same apron you have for a few years, than switched. Never looked back. Holds more items, and isn’t so hot in the summer. Have a 42’ fifth wheel, and the Va summers can be brutal. Great vids!

I just got an estimate from a body shop on doing this to my 37-foot motor home and they said it would be anywhere from $4500 to $5000. It's not that hard to do yourself. Just *remember to keep the pad flat with the surface and keep moving, take it easy on any stickers and start out at a lower speed until you get used to the buffer.*

Just a tip Sir, having done this a few times being guided by some experts, I have found to constantly change out the pad. Especially during the initial cutting process. The oxidation builds up fast on both the pad and cloth. A hot pad is a dirty pad. Also, I go through several micro fiber cloths. I definitely noticed there was no streaking anymore. And thank u for introducing me to rejex. I love that stuff. Very affordable and superior product.

Great job, sir, surface looks like new! I own several Griot random orbital buffers, but the one I use the most is a cordless buffer that I purchased from Griot along with 3 batteries. As I work with it, I rotate the batteries into the charger, it's more than enough to keep the process going without having to wait for batteries to charge. Plus, the cordless buffer is very light weight and I don't have to drag a cord around.

I started on ours yesterday and finished one side when the rain ended it today.. This is the second time for the chore because the first time didn’t turn out like I had hoped. This time around using a better compound has made the outcome much better

So your RV has oxidation?

@@RVstreet it does. On a stay at the beach I contacted the mobile detail guy that works the campground and wanted a wash and wax. He came out, used a wash that stripped all the wax off and then wanted $2,000 to compound and polish. I declined that proposal and attempted to do it myself. I used the compound that he suggested which was mequiars 49, it didn’t work out.. So this go round I’m using 3M heavy duty compound and mequiars flagship polish. It looks like new again. Throughout this I’ve been using a dual action buffer which is a must and have learned a few things. 1st is get a good cutting pad, 2nd is to clean the pad and 3rd is have good detailing towels. I got everything from Chemical Guys.. the cutting pads, they have a spray cleaner for the pads which works very well and they have quality towels.. Our 5er is 36’, going down one side I cleaned the pad 5 times to get the oxidation build up off.. When polishing with the white polish pad I cleaned it 3 times. Used 4 clean towels, 2 for compounding, 2 for polishing..

Hi Martin. I have a little something to add, that might help others out there trying to get that luster back. Like the section you pointed out that needed more attention, I had that problem pretty much all over it 2018 Winnebago Vista; we're 2nd owner. Between your guidance, and that of the folks at Meguiar's who weighed in to help me overcome the issue of something that just kept appearing as I polished the coach. I constantly kept getting this marring like effect as I polished with the Meguiar's Ultimate Polish. So Meguiar's suggested using #67 Compound, crank up the RPMs on the MT300 to 4800 - 5800, and utilize mild to moderate pressure as needed. That did the trick. I've completed the passenger side, and the back of the coach using the #67, followed by the Ultimate Polish, then the Rejex. Turned out very well. One area I have to return to is behind the ladder. Didn't want to remove the ladder. Between worn out shoulders, wrestling with the sun, and rain, I just had to get it close to the rest of the coach, and get the Rejex on it. I'll just go back another day and finish trying to perfect it. Anyway, just wanted to share what helped me in conjunction to your methodology. Wife and I love the performance that Rejex provides, and appreciate your sharing and answering questions I had along the way. Thanks again. The only suggestion I can make is one I have found from all of the Paint Detailing videos I have watched and from my own experiences. When applying Polish, you should do so in a hash tag type motion. You go left to right on the entire area and then up and down on the same area. You do not go as fast as you were going on your RV. That is why you had to go over spots two or three times. Just a little advice from someone that has done every vehicle in his home and they all look like new! 2012, 2015, 2016 and a 2017.

Hi Martin Good work! I love how you don't cut any corners like me. I have owned a VW restoration business for over the years and only did show winning restoration. From 1983 to 2004 Now I just have a nice hobby shop. Unfortunately I have had to slow down because I didn't take care of my body. I'm dealing with severe knee pain. I have recently purchased my first 2005 Tiffin Allegro 28ft gas powered motorhome. I'm going to have to remove some of the peeling decals and rebuild the right front leveling jack #66280. I was wondering what would be the best way to remove the adhesive with out hurting the gelcoat. Looking forward following you on your projects coming up and hearing from you. 3M Strip off wheel. This is the best way to go. Get a couple of them for a large graphic. Insert the shaft of the wheel into an ELECTRIC DRILL MOTOR-preferably a 1/2 drive one-not a battery operated drill motor. They're not strong enough. Start from one end of the graphic and gently work your way back and forth with medium pressure (you'll get the feel of it) over the old graphic and it will remove the graphic and the adhesive too. Once that's done, you'll have a little ghosting left over because that graphic has been there for years and there will be a little discoloration where it was and the surrounding area. Then take your variable speed polisher, pads and compound that area to remove or blend the two areas, then polish with red pads, then (2) final protection coats of RejeX. If the discoloration is pretty noticeable between the old graphic removed and the area around it, you'll need to use a wool pad instead of the red pads and a little more aggressive compound like my diamond compound. I have all this in my Amazon Store in the "Compound, Polish, Finish Coat" category. Just take your time and you'll be fine. thx Stephen

Hi Martin! As with the previous comments, this is another really awesome video! Thank you to you and Joanie for taking the time to make it! A few questions-- 1) if you were starting to detail your rig for the very first time, would you polish the whole thing, then rejex it? Or reserve the polishing only for the specific sections that need it? 2) Is your pad backing plate a 5 inch or 6 inch version (when you click your link, it has several options to choose from. 3) for your pads, when you click your link, it offers the Griots pads (red). You can't get a 3 pack, but there are singular and double options. In the video description, it calls them 6.5inch pads. But on the amazon, it shows them as 6 inch pads. I assume it really doesn't matter. There are also other links on the amazon page for 6.5inch options, but they are not Griots. Safe travels! It is finally somewhat warm in Ouray. I'm ordering you recommended detail items this week! I have to get them now as the Ouray 4th of July parade is coming up.....and my red tow vehicle needs to look perdy!

1) It depends. My rig when I bought it needed full compounding 1st. Had bad oxidation. Took 3 weeks to do that. Then polished, then applied RejeX. That area I showed in the video that has some cloudiness, if I stay with it often I don't have to polish it again. Now....if there's no oxidation then yes, I would polish the whole rig so I would have a good baseline to start with. Then apply RejeX. Going forward from there, I would wash it good twice a year and apply RejeX twice a year. The key is to NOT let the RV go to long and lose the shine so you have to polish again. 2) I use 5" plate with 6" pads 3) Sorry I should of made that description better on my Amazon page and updated it better in the description text of the video. I'm glad you made me look at that again. I'm usually really good about keeping all that info current and consistent. So thank you. I just made those updates. So....I use the 6" red pads (2 pack or more you'll need plenty) for heavy polishing or applying RejeX. But I have found that the yellow pads are softer and better for regular polishing and for applying RejeX. I carry plenty of both so matter what I run into I have what I need. My micro-fiber cloths also are fantastic. There are the best bar none. for that final wipe down. BTW...when you use my Amazon Store, be sure to check out within 24hrs. You didn't mention this but please remember, if your RV has oxidation you have to compound that off first. THEN...polish and protect.

Hi Martin, LOVE your channel. We're newbies since June and you have taught us so much!! Our coach is 16 years old and in great shape, low mileage. The one weakness is oxidized white, about 75% of the rig. Had not been cleaned in too long a time but, otherwise in decent shape. Will your recommended products and methods restore the shine to a seriously oxidized white coach surface, and do you think it would last with proper maintenance? Hi Frank, The light weight Meguirs MT300 Dual Action-5.4lbs. It's an awesome machine. Be sure to buy the back plate too. It's sold separately. It is the exact unit I used to remove the oxidation that our coach had when I first bought it in 2016. Having the right polisher is important. My coach at the time had heavy oxidation on the drivers side and back with light to medium oxidation on the other areas. My large slide on the drivers side was the worse so I had to use the wool pad and diamond cut compound on that area. I didn't have a YT Channel at the time, so I don't have a video on it. But I wish I did. I've actually been looking for an RV that has some oxidation so I can do a video on the process in a camp ground. But I haven't had any owners willing to cooperate with me. But I use the MT300 for everything to keep it maintained and yes, it will last as long as you keep it up every year. Don't ever let it oxidize again. If need be like you saw in the video, if an area needs a little polishing, polish it then apply RejeX. My secret to keeping it maintained and shiny is using RejeX for my final coat because RejeX blocks the UV rays from the sun and that's what causes oxidation. Start small first. Like on the back. That will give you an area to get into the rhythm. I used a 12' rolling scaffold so I could stand up straight and do the top half of the coach. The bottom half is much easier to do than the top. Compounding to remove oxidation takes time. As you compound, the pads will load up with material, you have to constantly remove it, by keeping them clean by washing them out with water-warm water is best-in a bucket and a small hand held brush. Wring them out, put them back on the MT300 and continue. Since you have heavy oxidation, you'll probably have to use the wool pad and the diamond cut compound, otherwise use the other compound material in the blue bottle in my store and my red pads. Once oxidation is off, THEN polish with my Meguiar's Ultimate Polish also with the red pads. It probably will take 2 or 3 passes to restore the shine. Don't do it in the sun. An overcast sky or inside under cover is the best to polish and apply RejeX-or wax if you prefer that instead-as your final coat. Again, keep your pads clean *AND DRY* when applying polish, keep wiping off the polish off the RV each time you make a pass with a microfiber cloth. Do small areas at a time. It's also better and goes faster if you have several pads. Just be patient, be methodical and it'll come out nice. Rejex says it would last less if you apply it on polish. That is once the polish breaks down, it will take Rejex with it. Ideal application would be, IMO, to buff with an abrasive compound, clean and then Rejex, if done for the first time. Then on, just clean and apply Rejex.

Rejex says do not apply over WAX, not polish. Polish is a process, not a coating. Polishing restores the finish; it does not remain on the surface.

Martin, thanks so much for these videos. We have a 2016 Thor Hurricane that sits in the CA sun. The exterior is very cloudy and I have bought the products, including the compound but not sure what the definition of heavy oxidation is and if I need to ise the wool pads and compound or just the polish. Started on one of the doors with the compound and multiple passes of the polish, cleaning the pads frequently and wiping off the polish immediately. The finish is shiny but still cloudy. What are we doing wrong?

It's hard to say what's going on without actually seeing it and watching what's going on during these different stages. You washed the RV first right? Are you doing all this in the shade? Are your polishing pads clean? After you polished did you follow up with RejeX as the final coat? Many times after applying a thin coat of RejeX, waiting 10 minutes then removing is the final touch to smooth everything out.

Hello Martin. Thank you for this video. Def helpful in bring the gel coat back to life in my travel trailer. On your advice, I’m going to give Rejex a try. You mentioned 2 applications a year will protect from the uv rays. Do you recommend 2 back to back applications at the same detailing or is one sufficient with another in 6 months? Thanks

Once the RV is washed really good with my soap that will NOT remove prior coats of RejeX, and it's polished to a nice shine the first time, one coat of RejeX every 6 months should do it. Thereafter-if you stay with it-wash it good every 6 months and then apply RejeX. The key is to NOT let the RV go to long where you lose the shine. If you do, then you have to polish it again then apply RejeX as your final coat. We a 45’ DP coach. Like yours it has been neglected. It’s all paint, no decals. But bc of the size I was considering a 10” buffer/pad. Seems like doing 45’ six inches at a time would be a KILLER!!! Thoughts? Suggestions? Thanks in advance!

What makes this job a possible killer is using the wrong polisher that weighs to much. Weight is a big deal bc it can wear your arms out. It also HAS TO BE a DA polisher. I've never seen 10" polishing pads for a DA polisher like I use but having that big of a pad I would think it would be hard to control and get even passes. To much flexing on the edge of the pad. Another thing that will really make this job easier is having a rolling scaffold. Rent or or buy one and do the whole upper part of the coach first. Then everything else is done at ground level. Since you have full body paint-and apparently no oxidation-polishing shouldn't be that big of a deal. Just patience and time. There are no short cuts. Once polishing is done be sure to protect it. Hi Martin & Joanie - Great video. Question; what you are showing, would it be the same process for a coach that has a full paint job? Also, we had a mishap on our maiden voyage in our 2018 Thor Challenger 37FH. We clipped the corner of an abandon gas station building as we were trying to circle the building to exit the corner station after stopping for a break. long story. We scrapped the side of the coach at the base of the PS slide and the basement door at the corner point of the building. We rubbed out the paint from the building and tried to smooth out the scraps, where some when to the aluminum door and fiberglass base at the bottom slide panel. I was able to get matched up automotive paint (four colors) from a vKOI auto parts store & paint shop in our home town. But is is not what we want it to look like; good as new. Any DYI ideas that we should try? Joe & Missy

@@joemissyoneil8668 Ya, those two video's cover different approaches depending on what you're trying to accomplish. I think the 2nd video is more what is in line for your situation. Don't really bare down on the polisher because you don't want to heat up the fiber glass. Using a very light compound and then polishing out stuff like this is a slow, easy process. If your scratches have gone thru the clear coat nothing will fix that other than repaint. More than likely, I suspect you can get it back to more than acceptable. Maybe not perfect but acceptable. Both the light compound and polish is in my Amazon store if your unsure what to get. I know you were probably really pissed at yourself when that happened but....the sun will rise tomorrow. I have not. But when they say *"it can last up to a year to protect your RV".....protect from what?* RejeX specifically protects against damaging UV rays which destroys RV's AND also makes it shine.

My wife and I recently inherited a 1996 national RV chevy dolphin 535... It has always been my dream to own a class a coach.. Your videos have been extremely helpful .... Trying to find anything about pre 2000s coaches is almost impossible .. Does anyone have suggestions on a youtube channel devoted to older n Motorhomes

They are no devoted YT channels that specialize in older Class A's to my knowledge because, caring for and servicing a pre 2000 Class A is going to be the same for any Class A. Same maintenance items and schedules, same outside care, same safety items, pretty much the same features and equipment etc. The only thing different you'll run into is when getting into possible chassis related repairs/replacement parts, those parts will possibly be a little different than newer Class A's. But that problem is easily solved with a little research. The first thing I'd do is get online and get *ALL YOUR MANUALS, WIRING & PLUMBING DIAGRAMS* while you still can. Don't wait till you need them to find them or need them. Since you're new at RVing, I highly recommend you watch these videos in my "RV Newbies Basic Training & Boot Camp Series" PLAYLIST. If it's full body paint (FBP) no. Most RV manufacturers recommend at least 1 year before you do any polishing or waxing to a coach that has full body paint. It needs that long to fully cure before you go additionally sealing and protecting it with wax or RejeX etc. But I have seen very few FBP 5vers out there. So with that being said, if it's not FBP then absolutely. If you start to take care of it now, and protect it now, you''ll be saving yourself a lot of grief later on. Once an RV starts to fade, get dull or oxidize your work load just doubled.

Serious question. I have rejex on my TT. Say you take a trip and hit some rain, would you still be comfortable only using the waterless wash? I have trouble knowing when to full blown soap and water or just use the waterless deal. Thanks

If I get caught in serious rain you know what happens right? The RV is trashed. So I do a thorough wash. Takes me about about 2-3hrs. BUT....if it's not serious rain and fully trashed and filthy, then I'll do a wash wax all waterless wash.
