This is how and what I used to polish and restore the shine to our fiberglass RV. If your RV has oxidation on the surface, looks flat and feels chalky this method may help you restore the shine to your camper.

Thanks for the video. I just did my Oliver this weekend with the One step. The front was pretty oxidized and it turned out great. I heard somewhere that after the one step you should wax it to preserve the shine longer. I used the Meguiars caranuba pure wax to finish the job.

Thanks for a grate help on this, I have a Jayco 2004 van it had no shine when I just Brouth it then I was looking at your home work on polishing your van so that's how I started. I got the Meguiars Oxidation Remover Heavy Duty Cleaner it didn't seem to work that good I was not happy with this so I tried a little patch with 600 wet and dry with heaps of soap wash it with clean water then hit it with the foam Buff and wow what a difference a Big shine came up very happy . When I went to But one-step cut-polish can't get this in Australia so I done this with Meguiars Oxidation Remover then the Meguiars Boat Caravan High Gloss Polish with wool pad and it looks like a new van now. ( For Bad Oxidation this idea works and it will make you Happy with your hard work ) So thanks again for your help on this.

I used the #67 and a wool pad on my random orbit polisher on my travel trailer. This RV had oxidation (chalking) of the fiberglass as well as some minor black streaks. It took all that off and left a beautiful shine! I'm so happy with it! Thanks for these tips!!

Thank you for making this! I have a 2018 Forest River product that has some chalking on the nose cap this year. I had been using spray waxes and hand buffing it out but that didn't work this time. I'm going to have to follow your excellent video instructions and invest in the right tools to address it before it becomes really bad.

Just used Meguiars 67 on our trailer today. I have some polishing learning curve, but it looks much better and is now sealed with some Jay Leno Radiant spray on ceramic. First try with this Leno product. I'll revisit in a couple months considering our spot bakes the front in the sun. The rest of trailer holds up well oxidation wise. I over wetted a pad and made a mess. That took two passes, but still see some blotchiness. Have to work on my low speed and high speed routine. Looking back, I needed more of the high speed finishing step. All good though, much better and I think Leno's ceramics are going to hold up better than the carnauba type waxes, and leaves no residues. Really like that about spray on products. Appreciate the video, learned plenty.

Hello, I recently watched your video to remove some oxidation on the top of my front cap of my 2014 Keystone Sprinter. I used the one-step #67 as you recommended and could not believe how effortless it was to make it look new again. @@RunawayRoses it worked great. However, I had some issues with the buffer. Out of the box there is a loud clanging sound that is probably bad bearings. Also, it doesn't hold the RPMs very well at low speed when making contact with the RV surface. But it's super cheap and I got thru my RV and also used it on my car so, meh, it's all good! For longer use, I'd recommend a different/better buffer. Thought you might be interested.

Wade Weisz, I apologize but I just saw this comment. We're still learning this KZbin thing but getting there. I'm very sorry about the bad bearings but you might go back to Ironton they would probably warranty it if you asked. We actually got ours from Northern Tool here in Atlanta. When we were shopping for one, it was the only brand we could find at a moments notice. Thanks for letting us know and I'm glad this method worked for you. You could try RUPES UNO advance one step. It has a 12 months sealant built in so no wax after would be necessary. Pan the Organizer does a video showing this product polishing up tail lights. I don’t know how aggressive the cut is but it’s literally a single step only. 3D ONE is also a highly rated single step cut and polish compound. Works very well with buff and shine Euro Fiber pads on auto paint.

Ok, this can be a do it yourself job but you need a beefy buffer and some professional cutting compounds. I just did a 21 year old Bigfoot and after 3 days of work the gel coat looks and feels like new. Like fresh out of the mold new. 3M superduty cutting compound, 9" wool pad and a $200 beefy buffer. Worth it? Absolutely. Followed up with 3M Perfect it polish and Ceramic hybrid wax. 303 uv protectant on top and the bugs just wash away.

Great video, I just bought a fiberglass RV and the roof is badly chalked. I am planning to remove the old (Dicor?0 sealant from around all the penetrations before restoring the roof. Should I put the new sealant on before or after I restore the surface. Just thinking it may adhere better to a surface that has not been polished (but then it was put onto a polished surface at the factory). Also after you finish with the Meguiar 's what do you recommend to put over the top to protect the roof, just any paste wax product?

Hi torq21, I will double check with Todd but we got our Bigfoot last July and we've only polished it like this once and it's still very shiny. It was chalky when we got it so it really made a HUGE difference. We do try to wash it when we return from our camping trips but so far we haven't waxed it yet. We need to do that this year to keep it up. It's garage kept so that helps. It is hard work to do this method and it took Todd two days to finish the job but it has held up well and I don't think we'll have to do this particular method again for a while. Thanks for watching our video and good luck with your RV polishing! ~Carla

Great video, I have a 2011 40' fifth wheel RV. I need to restore the fiber glass. Looking for help on what I need to do the job start to finish. So watching several videos. Looks like I need a polisher and 💯 wool pad to cut the oxidation with the one step compound. And a second polisher to apply and buff a wax finish? All help is appropriated. I bought this RV from someone and after recaulking all seams I wanna restore fibreglass. And I wanna get proper tools. But at same time I'm not opening a detail shop.

It sounds like you have the right idea on what you need. Depending on how bad your camper is oxidized and how big it is, it can turn into a big job but this one step compound/polish works very well. Otherwise if you think you might want to have someone else do it look for a boat detailer not an auto detailer. Typically the boat guys know better on how to work with fiberglass. For fiberglass rv's boats the answer is simple. 1 wool double-sided for compound. 1 nylon or nylon/wool double-sided pad for waxes/polishes/sealants. Done. (here, I'll show ya'll what I mean) kzbin.info/www/bejne/nmbWlnZodrSKe5I www.deckhanddetailing.com More detail; kzbin.info/www/bejne/Zp2ZdZyiZ9FjecU Double-sided pads DWP849x buffer (we helped design btw's) The boat, compound or pad care not how you apply the compound. What's important is speed, efficiency and waste-reduction. Cross-cut then smooth flat. Slow-faster-slow, work until only an oily residue is left (unless using a water-based compound - don't ) Edgless microfiber towels. Basically stop Only when it looks like wet paint. If you can't achieve that yet, finish with a random. Orbital buffer and a light cleaner wax (never carnuba!!!) wipe clean and do it again in 6-8 months. Or, get down to fresh gelcoat and lock it in with RMP for almost 3 years once it looks wet. Nylon/wool pad or soft foam. The only way to really know if you are at "wet" real wet, clean with a degreaser/iso and look at it without the oils from the compound still in the gelcoat pores. Fatal mistake for noobs. www.deckhanddetailing.com

Is that a rubber roof or what type material?
@RunawayRoses
@RunawayRoses 5 жыл бұрын
Hi Jim12186, If your not familiar with fiberglass trailers it is basically like two boats put together. The bottom half being one boat and the top half being another with a seam in the middle. The full exterior is fiberglass all the way around. So what I'm polishing in the video is the hard shell fiberglass on the roof but it's the same polishing process for all the way around the trailer. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching! ~ Todd

Any tips or tricks we should be aware of polishing the RV decals or around those decals?
@RunawayRoses
@RunawayRoses 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Trevor, Just be careful around the skinny areas of the decals or around sharp corners. I found it's best to have the rotation of the polisher go from the decal on to the RV surface. The polisher can pull up the corners of the decal a little bit sometimes if your not careful. Try to go from the decal out that should help. Thanks for watching!

My fleetwood revolution has graphics. I do not like graphics wish it was all painted.my manual to my rig says nit to wax the graphics. So buffing the area where the paint is, does not work together. I would love to wax it all. Has anyone else waxed your graphics?

Good day Todd. I was wondering if this lasts a year or longer?
@davidveasey735
@davidveasey735 4 жыл бұрын
Longevity is totally dependant by your choice of final wax (or synthetic) . You must provide this "final' step in order to protect finish from UV exposure. Polish is not your final step! You need UV protection. 1. Carnuba wax: 6-8 weeks (depends on amount of hours in the sun.) 2,Premium synthetic paste wax will protect from 12-20 weeks 3. Full polymer synthetic (such as Rejex): 8 months to a year!

Did my coach yesterday. Went to a boat shop and picked up boat polish wax. Just wiped a thin layer on and brushed it off by hand. You sure don't need an elictric buffer.

Thanks for the great info Todd! Even though our Jayco is new and doesn't have any oxidation, we want to keep it preserved well. What do you use to wash your rig? Do you cover/store your Bigfoot in the winter?
@RunawayRoses
@RunawayRoses 5 жыл бұрын
Hi Freebird, I typically try to buy a good quality car wash with Carnauba wax in it. That is what we use on our vehicles so I just use that on the trailer as well and it's work well keeping up the shine. I know RV wash is available but I've never used it. We keep our trailer in covered storage so that helps for the long term and cuts down on the maintenance.

How many times did you have to change out the wool pad?
@RunawayRoses
@RunawayRoses 5 жыл бұрын
If I remember correctly I think I changed the pad 2 or 3 times for the whole camper. Kind of clean them off as I go. If you turn the polisher on upside down and hold a scrub brush lightly over the wool pad as it it turning it removes a lot of built up. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching ~ Todd

@@RunawayRoses that is totally fair. Thank you for your reply. I was hoping it was not and product issue because I was researching how or if I wanted do my two RVs myself when I came across your videos. Your reply came a little late and I DID pull the trigger on the Meguiar's One Step and just spent the entire weekend teaching myself how to do it. I'm very happy with the results especially after I added a Meguiars wax. That said, it would have been a heck of a lot easier and faster to have someone else do it. Now though, I will be a much better and wiser consumer of those services. Cheers Brother.
