Thank you for your very simple abridged video without BS music! Very concise and easy to understand thank you. I've heard of the Ivory soap thing but not the borax. When to go out today I'm going to see if I can pick up some borax. 👍

Also rubbing some vegetable oil on rocks with cracks or fractures will help hide that stuff really well.

Just curious.. what happens if you use iron out in a rock tumbler before using any grit? I see people cleaning with it. Would it make any difference to let them tumble in iron out or just sit?

My question is, did you do this after the last polish?

Borax is banned in the UK. Would this work with baking soda?
@RobertBuman19 күн бұрын
Borax is a water softener. I use it after the polish cycle to keep hard water mineral deposits from forming on my rocks. Think of spots on glasses in a dish washer. I run a final cycle for 30 minutes in my tumbler with water and a tablespoon of borax. I take the rocks out of the water borax solution and wipe them off. If you rinse them off you will get hard water deposits.

I do a 2 hour minimum borax cycle between each grit stage including after the final polish. Excellent results.

Dawn dish soap also works for removing the film and improving the shine

What did you start out with? Standard rock polish grits?
@thehow-tocrew81453 жыл бұрын
Yep I do the standard 4 cycles, but was finding my rocks were not as shiny as I'd like. I've heard slices of bar soap work well too.

I was not satisfied with the polish on my rocks as well. Found out that the “polish” I bought from mjr tumblers was sub par. Aluminum oxide 1200 grit, got some better polish from the rock shed, aluminum oxide 8000 grit and it made all the difference in the world. I still burnish though, lol

Do you think this would work on Obsidian? I'm scared to polish them because it's such a soft gemstone 😭

Yes it does 👌

The BORAX is simply cleaning the stones. You can try a drip or two of Dawn Dishwashing liquid as well.
